About this listen

Bestselling Author Rosaria Butterfield Confronts 5 Cultural Lies She Once Believed

Modern culture is increasingly outspoken against a biblical understanding of what it means to be a woman. Even some Christians, swayed by the LGBTQ+ movement, have rejected God’s word on issues of sexuality and gender in favor of popular opinion. In light of these pressures, it’s more important than ever to help women see the truth about who God created them to be.

In this powerful book, Rosaria Butterfield uses Scripture to confront 5 common lies about sexuality, faith, feminism, gender roles, and modesty often promoted in our secular culture today. Written in the style of a memoir, this book explores Butterfield’s personal battle with these lies—interwoven with cultural studies, literary criticism, and theology—to help listeners see the beauty in biblical womanhood, marriage, and motherhood.

  • Culturally Relevant: Confronts controversial topics including transgenderism, homosexuality, feminism, spirituality, and modesty from a Bible-centered perspective
  • Written for Christian Women: Inspires women to preserve godly values around womanhood, marriage, and motherhood in their lives, and offers guidance as they shepherd the next generation
  • By Rosaria Butterfield: Bestselling author of The Gospel Comes with a House Key (100,000+ copies sold) and The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert (100,000+ copies sold)
  • Filled with Personal Stories: Rosaria speaks from her own experience as a formerly militant anti-Christian and outspoken feminist, in order to teach and encourage other Christians

Poignant and powerful!

As the book began I was taken back by Butterfield’s firmness and forwardness, but by the end of the book I treasured these qualities as I read! What a treasure to the modern church and believers. This book is logical and firmly rooted in Scripture. Her stories shared were engaging and humorous, while being relatable and compelling. Must read(or listen to the audiobook!) 6/5 stars, easy!

Strong Witness

Rosaria was able to tell her story and explain her transformation from darkness to Light, with great understanding of how Christ changed her and how His Word, the Bible, opened up her heart and mind to the truth. Thank you Rosaria!

Resourceful!

Resourceful book for those who are going through this, or who are generally interested in how the Bible approaches it. Would not recommend for little ears.

Much needed in this age

So to the point! Chalked full of Gods scripture and a sincere love to reach those who have fallen captive to lies as well as those who unknowingly accept their brothers and sisters captivity and support it.

Rosaria Butterfield is my hero!

Rosaria's words are Biblically true and very encouraging of us who have prodigals living an immoral life. She gives practical, doable and Godly actions to take on how to avoid pitfalls for those still raising children. I appreciate her transformed life and her life's mission to glorify our Lord.

God can change the heart of anyone who chooses to seek Him

This was an amazing book that was both informative regarding the common lies that are told today in our churches and communities as well as helpful in its insights PLUS a wonderful story of the authors journey to faith. As a man I was struck by the importance of God’s role for men and women and how the creator of all mankind has a plan for each individual that intimately intertwine with their biological sex. Feminism has now destroyed the very people i.e. women, that it fought so hard to raise to the top and even more so with the onset of transgenderism where feminist cannot even define what a woman is nor do they choose to support women athletes struggle against the transgender movement. One thing is evident also as I read this book and that is that evil is alive and well and that we ignore Satan and his attack on us and our children at our own peril, it’s only through faithful devotion to God through reading the Bible and praying that we have any hope as human beings of living a meaningful life on this planet for the wisp of time that we are here. The analogy of being hooked to Adams belt and then when we become saved being unhooked by the Holy Spirit and hooked to Jesus on his belt is a powerful visual. Being hooked as if we are on a hook on Adam’s belt makes me think that we as humans, despite the fact that the hook is painful, choose to paint the hook to make it look nice, choose to build a house on the hook, choose to put two cars on the hook with us, all of which creates more pain for us and yet it’s so ingrained as Americans that this is the American dream when in essence it’s just the hook that brings us that much further away from Jesus and closer to the pit of fire. This is one of those books you have to read over and over again to truly capture all it has to offer.

Outstanding Book

Butterfield, as always, does a phenomenal job in this book of not only diagnosing the problems in our culture, but also prescribing the solution. Her writing is thoroughly biblical and faithful. I highly recommend this book for all Christians.

One of the most important things she does in the book is show why agreeing with the culture isn't loving towards the unsaved. Using someone's preferred pronouns, for example, isn't loving or helpful. If we really want to love our neighbors, we must speak the truth to them.

My only disagreement with her is regarding social media. I think social media is a morally neutral tool. For some, the tool is used well and it's useful. For some, the tool is used poorly and it should be discarded. I disagree with her universal condemnation of social media for anything other than sharing announcements. But I still gave the book five stars, because I consider this a reasonable disagreement between Christians. The rest of the book is so thoroughly biblical that I couldn't bring myself to dock it a star because of the social media section.
