What am I going to do with my retirement?

People talk about retirement like it's supposed to be an endless vacation. But what if, like the majority of those facing retirement, you can't afford such a luxury? Or, what if you just want something more from retirement? Some advocate for no retirement at all. But you've worked for decades and a rest and reprieve do sound appealing. What should you do? Does God have a purpose for your retirement?

Yes, he does. Learn how to discern what it is by taking an uncommon approach. Jeff Haanen looks biblically and practically at the need for rest and purpose in retirement. And teaches you how to take a sabbatical rest in early retirement; listen to God's voice for their calling in retirement; rethink "work" in retirement; and understand family systems and leaving a legacy.

Planning retirement doesn't have to be distressing. Retire in a way that's God-honoring, purpose-filled, restful, and truly biblical.

Insightful

Thought provoking (maybe) and useful for those who are retired and those who plan to be. This is not about financial planning- it’s focused on choosing to live with purpose in your later years. As a recent retiree a lot of this is common sense to me - I planned until the day I decided to retire, not obsessively just intentionally. However I appreciate the Biblical perspective the author provided on each topic.

Repurpose vs Retire

Excellent insight into the way society in general thinks about retirement vs Biblical ways of the third third of life.

So good I’ve ordered the print version

This short audiobook is packed with biblical and practical insights about retirement and does a great job of presenting a countercultural approach to the subject. I would recommend it to anyone at any age. I want to work through it more carefully so I’m studying the print version next.

Great guidance at the end of formal work time.

Encouraged to change from leisure toobe and fro. Recreation to re-creation, from selfishness to self sacrifice.

A book about retirement that attempts to guilt you

This book spends two chapters telling you why retirement isn’t Biblical or good for Christians. While I do not see retirement as a continuous vacation and wanted to read more about a purposeful retirement, the notion that Christians should keep working part time was absolutely the theme. I didn’t find what I was looking for in this book. Also every story was about how retirement was not fulfilling which is just not the case.
