Publisher's summary

Underneath the desert sands, a forgotten culture awaits your discovery...

Its pyramids jut like wind-ravaged arrowheads from the ground, dominating the skyline of the desert plane. Sun-scorched air whistles through the carved stones of its ancient monuments, whispering of grandeur long gone, now nearly swallowed by unmerciful desert sands. Its secrets whisper. And its riddles beckon.

But now the mysteries of ancient Nubia are now laid bare, waiting for you to discover them!

The kingdoms of ancient Nubia rivaled the world’s greatest empires for thousands of years. For thousands of years, Nubia’s legendary kings and queens made war with the empires of Egypt and Rome, its jewelry and iron were traded as far away as India and China, and its gold built the temples and tombs of civilizations throughout the Mediterranean. For thousands of years, Nubia and Egypt shared their gods, art, architecture, and trade goods. Nubia’s achievements rivaled the greatest powers of the ancient world. And Nubia’s archaeological remains still dominate the landscapes of southern Egypt and Sudan.

Here are just a few of the secrets awaiting your discovery:

  • The mystery and shocking theories behind one of the world’s most puzzling religious monuments - the ancient standing stones of Nabta Playa
  • The archaeological secrets of the A, B, and C-Group Cultures, whose descendants shaped the empires of northeast Africa
  • The power of the ancient Kerma Culture, the first incarnation of the Kushite kingdom who nearly toppled the Egyptian empire
  • The mighty Kingdom of Kush, who dominated the trade and cultures of northeast Africa and beyond, establishing the reign of Egypt’s famed Black Pharaohs
  • The mysteries of Nubia’s pyramids, which outnumber the pyramids of Egypt 2 to 1

Listen to this audiobook to discover more about ancient Nubia. Its secrets wait to be revealed!

Truly a wonderful experience learning about Nubia

I loved the amazingly rich history presented in this audio book. Having only known a little about ancient Nubia, this gave me a large amount of new information about an incredible empire and its origins. It inspired me to look up the Nubian pyramids, maps of Nubia, and the different cataracts of the Nile that were mentioned. This was an excellent story and well organized.

The only issue I have is this particular narrator and his style. He always sounds surprised at what he's reading. I guess its meant to seem more exiting to use the affect but I find it distracting. The performance is well done - I'm just not a fan of his style.

probably another listen needed

try as I might, I found it very hard to focus on this one. I know a great portion of that us because of the narrator, but even then...

1 thing is true though -- the Nubians probably did as much, if not more, than the Egyptians we know so much about. according to 1 of the facts I did catch, is that their main languages have yet to be deciphered. I think once that code is cracked, the flood gates will gush with knowledge.
