About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

This Penguin Classic is performed by Tania Rodrigues. This definitive recording includes an introduction by Michael Glencross.

One night in the reform club, Phileas Fogg bets his companions that he can travel across the globe in just 80 days. Breaking the well-established routine of his daily life, he immediately sets off for Dover with his astonished valet Passepartout. Passing through exotic lands and dangerous locations, they seize whatever transportation is at hand - whether train or elephant - overcoming set-backs and always racing against the clock.

This is the sort of story that, as generations go by, invites the reader to conjure further and more elaborate adventures for such a character. We don’t get to know what makes him tick, but he is the pillar one looks to in any potential catastrophe. Action packed. Romantic. Humorous. Classic.

A wonderful novel in a good translation, but the narration is oddly recorded. It sounds as though it was narrated quickly and then slowed down, and the L & R channels are not completely in sync, which makes it sound like AI narration despite the narrator's pleasant, human intonation.

Wonderful novel, good translation, odd recording.
