Critic reviews

"Since he received an Audie nomination for Volume I and an Audie Award for Volume II, it’s not surprising that Charlton Griffin gives another extraordinary performance in this volume of Sherlock Holmes works. In addition to impeccable interpretations of familiar characters - Holmes, Watson, Mycroft, and Lestrade - Griffin creates remarkably believable women. Griffin’s narration is fresh, flawless, and completely winning." (AudioFile magazine)

Excellent complete collection

Excellent complete collection of one of my favorite authors. Enjoyed the performance of the narrator who had a good consistent voice for various characters. The quality of the recording was excellent. If you want a complete collection of the Sherlock Holmes (shouldn't everyone have one?), this is the one for you.

An interesting, and psychological view on logic.

Would you listen to The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes again? Why?

I hold Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the utmost respect; for his superior logic, morals, and intellect. Sherlock Holmes is the epitome of logical thinking, holding manifesting high principles for proper conduct. (Aside from his drug habits, and his disbelief in the supernatural ;) his intelligence, reason, understanding, thought, brainpower, sense, judgments, are all (very nearly) perfect. But Sherlock NOT was always right, and admitted it when he was not. An important fact, which the new BBC Sherlock Holmes did not have, and he was not rude without reason. He was, simply put, in love with logic. And did not ask for any kind of reword, of fame, or money; but did the work for the works sake alone, and was content. If you have a good taste for logical, or scientific thinking; I think you will enjoy what Arthur Conan Doyle has to offer.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes?

Definitely the quotes, I quote (you might say it is Sherlock’s life motto)
"When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

What about Charlton Griffin’s performance did you like?

I have heard better, Rob Inglis is my favorite, so basically anything that sounds like him is what I’m going to get. Not to say that Charlton Griffin’s performance was bad, on the contrary; he did an amazing job, and a stunning voice.

If you could rename The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes, what would you call it?

I have nothing wrong with the title of this story.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book for the advanced reader, because of the large vocabulary, and the intense (and sometimes graphic) descriptions, that follows from being involved with crimes such as murder. To be frank, it would simply go over the heads of the average idiot.

classic story

Always good to hear Holmes in action. Even in this day and age Conan's work did not disappoint.

Riveting

Still after more than a century the stories of mr Holmes have kept me glued to my earpieces. I find that the narration was masterfully done. I look immensely forward to enjoying the last part of Sherlock Holmes.

Best Book and Narrator Combo I've encountered!

I knew Sherlock Holmes and Sir Conan Doyle would be a hit, but add in Charlton Griffin as narrator and it was a home run. I listen to it over and over again. It is unbelievable that one person narrated what was probably close to 100 characters throughout the entire collection, male and female voices, various accents, and made them all believable. I have prematurely returned so many audio books simply because I couldn't get past the voice of the author. It's really too bad for the authors whose books may have been a best seller, but I just couldn't get past the reader. This author and reader were gems and a pleasure to listen to over and over again. I HIGHLY recommend!

Great stories

Will take quite a long time to get through them all, but great stories, and most about a half hour, 45 minutes. A few go for hours.

Will performed and easily listened to at 1.25x.

Really enjoyed
