About this listen

It’s known as the Cataclysm - an event responsible for arresting most electronic technology. Its impact was global, and few countermeasures existed. Civilization was nearly brought to its knees. At least for a while. We found ways of getting by. Humanity connected with its past while auguring new solutions. Even for college students like Joanna Westenra, a world without smartphones or the Internet was survivable - albeit just barely. We were down but not out. Life could go on.

Then, the Cataclysm unveiled something new. Monsters arose in the night. They are known as the Turned. We try valiantly to ignore them, to go on as if nothing else has changed. Yet, we cannot deny that these creatures were once human. They are solicited from both the living and the dead. They hunt us and harbor no mercy.

Joanna is hanging onto her former life as best she can, but now she sees things only the Turned are rumored to witness. The crimson clouds of the Cataclysm leer on as Joanna embarks upon her destiny.

Not my cup of tea

Shadows of the Feyd.
It is more fantasy and magic, the blurb did not describe it as such.
I guess there's nothing wrong with it. Just not my cup of tea..

Promising Start to Near-Future Urban Fantasy

Art of Zafira is the start of a promising new Urban-Fantasy series set in the near future. Despite the Cataclysm (including loss of reliability for anything electronic), society has managed to not truly collapse, a fairly different take for most series with an Apocalypse as part of its premise. The characters make sense for their ages and are relatable, and the action gains speed through the climactic battle of this book. The only downside is that about the last third of the book is after the climactic battle and is used to reveal more background information (including the reason for the book title, while the series name was made clear earlier) that should have either been more upfront or postponed to later books and is largely used to set up the main conflict for the rest of the series. Overall a good listen and enjoyable start. I look forward to seeing where the series goes.

Good start to a new Urban Fantasy series

Art of Zafira : Shadow of the Feyd is a good start to a new urban fantasy series. The book follows the protagonist Joanna who is a college student in Pittsburgh(I think). The world has gone through a Cataclysm recently, Most electronics mysteriously stopped working and soon after monsters started to appear and have plagued much of the world. There are hot spots for these monsters and Pittsburgh is one. The monsters which only come out at night and the fact that electronics don't work anymore have drastically changed the world but people still try to go on and live their lives the best they can.

Joanna is one of those people and is just trying to live her life, go to school and hang out with her friends but fate or chance has something else in store for her. She is soon caught up in this supernatural world and may in fact be the only hope for humanity. There are secret groups of people that know much more about what is going on in the world and what must be done to save it and Joanna crosses paths with them and her life and what she knows about herself changes forever.

This book features, Monsters, Magic, biblical mythology and much more and weaves a very interesting tale. The narration by Natalie Naudus is great and really adds a lot to the enjoyment of the story.

Overall this is a great start to a series and am interested to see where future installments take it.

College just got a lot harder.

Natalie Naudus does a great job narrating this book. I enjoyed this book a lot, it has a fast past and great worldbuilding. The main character, Joanna is very likable and I hope the next book comes out soon! This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review

I cant wait for the sequel!

I normally dont like books in the first person or books with a religious undertone, but this one is awesome. The plotline is great, but more than that, the world building is captivating and so rich. The story builds to a great ending that leaves you excited for the next book!
