Publisher's summary

Elana Black has the power to make herself fictional. But when she decides to start saving all the people in books and TV shows who die just for the sake of advancing the plot, she quickly learns that she's not the only one with her powers. All Elana wants to do is save people. But these others don't want the stories to change, and they'll do everything they can to stop her. If you had the power to change fate...to create a happy ending where there wasn't one before...would you do it if it meant risking your own?

A new Dresden Files?

This is the first audio book I have heard Whitton perform on, and she did a phenomenal job. She voiced multiple characters and everyone of them sounded unique and I knew who was speaking each time without confusion. She had a range and energy that put this in par, at least for me, with a lot of audio dramas. I hope she stays on and narrates future books.

The character of Elana herself is someone who is deeply flawed and completely relatable. There is a fun little bit of character there, where it seems like her job would be so much easier if she didn't have friends, but at the same time they only reason she does any of this is because she cares about people. She is anxious at times, but where she really gets into trouble is where she seems to make it her personal mission to make enemies with everyone, something that very much reminds me of Dresden.

Depending on how long this series goes, there are any number of different ways this story could go. The ending of the first already didn't seem to go the way I think most people would have expected, so it will be fun to see what comes next.

Interesting concept and pulls you into the story.

This took me a few chapters to get into the story. The introduction to Elana as our "hero" was slow and I wasn't quite sure where the story was going, or even if i liked Elana. But eventually i just kept wanting to know more and Elana's quirkiness really grew on me. It was a very different concept of magic and has a rich world that has near endless possibilities. Once i finished it I immediately started the second book because i needed to know what would happen to Elana and her friends. That is usually what I consider a good book, one that pulls me into the story and characters till i need to know what happens next.

P.S. The narrator Whitton A. Frank really nailed Elana's quirky spirit.

Tremendous new series!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I REALLY enjoyed this book! It has great dialogue, both internal and with a colorful cast of characters. The premise, being able to jump into anything fictional and make changes, was really cool, and unique. The narrator, too, did a great job of making all the characters, especially Elana, come to life. I am actually pretty excited if this becomes a series. It will definitely be on my "must get the next book" list.

A Book Nerd's Adventures in Other Worlds

An introverted book store employee discovers she can actually enter into and change the action in fictional worlds, setting into play a wild and sometimes scary adventure that includes zombies, fairies (definitely NOT the cute, Walt Disney type),monsters and magic. This one's got plenty of action, a great sense of humor and some really interesting characters.
If you like your fantasy modern and a bit unsettling, you'll love this one. I did.

A Unique,one of a kind novel - a must read!

Would you listen to Empty Threat again? Why?

Yep. They felt like my friends and the story had real depth

What other book might you compare Empty Threat to and why?

can think of any, really unique

Which character – as performed by Whitton A. Frank – was your favorite?

main character, Alana.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Right when we found out her talent. An endless opportunity of stories.

Any additional comments?

There's so many wonderful things to say about this novel I don't know where to start. The overall concept is brilliant, with an endless source of new exciting new worlds to explore, keeping the reader forever off balance. I must also add this is some of the best character development work I've ever seen. It might be because I read the audiobook and the voices of the narrator really bring the people alive. The main characters are so real you feel like you could pinch them, and the sinister ones - oh my! They make you skin crawl!

Never predictable, never dull, this a must read.

A new series I will have to follow!

I like this book a lot it reminds me of my early love of comic book hero's who discover there power only to find someone ready to kill them for it. The idea is a great one for readers who go deep into there books. The audio version is great the reader captures the young womans excitement and horror all at the same time. I will happily look forward to the next story.
