Publisher's summary

Salvation Has a Price.

An enthralling murder mystery with a vividly realised future world, forcing listeners to grapple hard hitting questions about the climate crisis, our relationship with Artificial Intelligence and the price we would be willing to pay, as a species, to be saved. Perfect for fans of Blake Crouch, Neal Stephenson, Philip K Dick, Kim Stanley Robinson and RR Haywood, or those that loved Steven Pacey's narration of Joe Abercrombie's First Law series.

It's 2050, a decade after a heatwave that killed 400 million across the Persian Gulf, including journalist Marcus Tully's wife. Now he must uncover the truth: Was the disaster natural? Or is the weather now a weapon of genocide?

A whistleblower pulls Tully into a murder investigation at the centre of an election battle for a global dictator, with a mandate to prevent a climate apocalypse. A former US President campaigns against the first AI politician of the position, but someone is trying to sway the outcome.

Tully must convince the world to face the truth and make hard choices about the future of the species. But will humanity ultimately choose salvation over freedom, whatever the cost?

AMAZING

Top 5 audio books. I LOVED this book. Sci-fi meets mystery and political story love it all. Not spooky. More a political narrative of the world in 2050. Great reading and page on audible.

Couldn’t stop listening

It starts fast, has no lulls, and ends with an amazing twist. All on top of that… Pacey. I don’t need to say more. 6/5 if I could.

Excellent narration!!

A roller coaster of speculative fiction wrapped in a murder mystery set in the near future. OMG this was a lot to take in! Who am I supposed to trust now?

This book is a page turner. I’m newer to sci-fi but this book had a little bit of everything. Very well done!

A twist around every corner

The narrator is excellent, he puts so much emotion into what’s being said for all the characters! The story itself is phenomenal, I was expecting a murder mystery in a sci-fi but it’s amazing. So many topics covered in this book hit so close to home in a way that’s scary to think about. I still have so many questions and hope there is a book two in the works!

Finished this audio book in two days. Could not stop listening. Story was very well laid out with twist and turns that are believable. Hoping for a sequel to this story one day.

Unique twisty sci Fi murder mystery plus

What an incredibly complex intelligent read. Stratified characters involved in a crazy layered mystery/murder plot. The future is bleak and it's not that far away from our current reality. Can artificial intelligence get us out of our own way and clean up our deadly mess of a planet we have created? Politics, murder, end of days, environment and the giant gap of the have and have nots. Then of course is AI trustworthy? You will deep dive into your own opinions about all of it and then just sit and have to simmer in it all at the end, asking so what is TRUTH? This was soo much but, not too much for anyone to enjoy this page turner...

Steven Pacey, No More Incentive Needed

I wish the other reviewers hadn’t framed this book as a testament to how scary AI can be because it created expectations that ruined the ending for me but it was still a great listen. I would listen to Steven Pacey read the phone book to me. He’s just incredible. His work with the First Law books ruined other audiobooks for me because I can’t find anything that rivals them. This author did a great job of telling an interesting story, creating likable characters and building tension. Hopefully there’s a sequel. I can see a number of directions the author could go with it and I’d be happy to hear Mr. Pacey do another.
