About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
In her latest book, five-time number one New York Times best-selling author Dr Brené Brown writes, 'If we want to find the way back to ourselves and each other, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories, and to be stewards of the stories that we hear. This is the framework for meaningful connection.'
In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through 87 of the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills and lays out an actionable framework for meaningful connection, she gives us the language and tools to access a universe of new choices and second chances - a universe where we can share and steward the stories of our bravest and most heart-breaking moments with one another in a way that builds connection.
Over the past two decades, Brown's extensive research into the experiences that make us who we are has shaped the cultural conversation and helped define what it means to be courageous with our lives. Atlas of the Heart draws on this research, as well as Brown's singular skills as a researcher/storyteller, to lay out an invaluable research-based framework that shows us that naming an experience doesn't give the experience more power, it gives us the power of understanding, meaning and choice.
Brown shares, 'I want this to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart and the right maps, we can travel anywhere and never fear losing ourselves. Even when we have no idea where we are.'

Story
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

Story
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

Story
The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

Another delightful learning session with Brene Brown
Brene is such an excellent storyteller and it’s so good that she recorded this audiobook like she’s talking to us instead of just robotic uttering words in the book. The content is as great as her other books- research based, clearly clarified and distinguished from similar ones with life touching examples. Inspiring book!

Brené Brown. She can do no wrong ♥️
Another incredible examination of what it means to be human. Every time I read one I’d get books I feel like I know myself just a teensy bit better. Feel less defensive. Feel more able to let go of anger and resentment.
I just love listening to her narrate. I feel like we get some bonus insights and it’s just such a pleasure to hear her excitement and passion. What a bloody treasure She is.

The best way to spend a holiday car ride
Her narration skills are awesome! It was a great way of consuming this type of topic.
I also have her hardcover book as is really pretty to look at. But I had a harder time making myself read it.
I then got the audible and is been a joy to listen to her explaining all the terms and concepts.
If you have an upcoming long commute to visit your family, use the time to listen to this !!!

Atlas of the Heart and me.
I could connect with most of the emotions described in this audio book. The voice inflections while she read drove home the meaning of the ones I could not quite connect with. I am glad that my attempt at trying to put words to emotions I’ve felt were not really far-fetched. Brené Brown just helped in expanding my descriptions with better vocabulary. The sorting of the emotions into the various chapters helped to tie them to external and internal influences that cause these emotions to unearth.
This is an amazing book that should be read not just once but through a lifetime.
