About this listen
What use is a clean soul when the city around you is dirty as sin?
Fatherless and as good as motherless, Messiah "Mash" Bankfield must shake his nagging religion from his conscious if he wants to level up in a city centered around the '90s drug boom, twisted sexual exploitation, hardcore hip hop, and deep ghetto philosophy. Even if it requires hustling the same stuff that turned his child-abusing mother into a dope fiend or taking out the big homies who showed him love, some things just must be. Shaped by the unsavory lifestyle of his sugar-daddy seeking sister, Tether, and haunted by the spirit of his deceased righteous grandmother, Mash sinks deeper into the darkness. Sacrifices have to be made in order for him to take the title as the man of the house and make his bones as a young O.G. on both sides of the tracks. By age 15, he may have the heartlessness to sacrifice his scandalous cousin and the game to pimp his unknowing enemies, but will his savage ambition cost him his soul?

A rebellious boy's journey through the wilds of urban America and the shrapnel of a self-destructing family - this is the riveting story of a generation told through one dazzlingly poetic new voice. MK Asante was born in Zimbabwe to American parents: a mother who led the new nation's dance company and a father who would soon become a revered pioneer in Black studies. But things fell apart, and a decade later MK was in America, a teenager lost in a fog of drugs, sex, and violence on the streets of North Philadelphia.

A blueprint. A bible. What Sun Tzu’s Art of War was to ancient China, Pimp is to the streets. As real as you can get without jumping in, this is the story of Iceberg Slim’s life as he saw, felt, tasted, and smelled it. It is a trip through hell by the one man who lived to tell the tale—the dangers of jail, addiction, and death that are still all too familiar for today’s Black community. By telling the story of one man’s struggles and triumphs in an underground world, Pimp shows us the game doesn’t change; it just has a different swagger.

A propulsive and ambitious novel as electrifying as The Wire, from a writer hailed as the West Coast's Richard Price—a mesmerizing epic of crime and opportunity, race, revenge, and loyalty, set in the chaotic streets of South Central LA in the wake of one of the most notorious and incendiary trials of the 1990s. At 3:15 p.m. on April 29, 1992, a jury acquitted three white Los Angeles Police Department officers charged with using excessive force to subdue a black man named Rodney King and failed to reach a verdict on the same charges involving a fourth officer. Less than two hours later, the city exploded in violence that lasted six days. In nearly 121 hours, fifty-three lives were lost. But there were even more deaths unaccounted for: violence that occurred outside of active rioting sites by those who used the chaos to viciously settle old scores.

Story
Gloria Norris grew up in the projects of Manchester, New Hampshire, with her parents; her sister, Virginia; and her cat, Sylvester. A snapshot might show a happy young family, but only a dummkopf would buy that. Nine-year-old Gloria is gutsy and wisecracking. Her father, Jimmy, all dazzle and danger, is often on the far side of the law and makes his own rules - which everyone else better follow. Gloria's mom, Shirley, tries not to rock the boat, Virginia unwisely defies Jimmy, and Gloria fashions herself into his sidekick - the son he never had.

This is a universal book that everyone should read or listen to. This book is very entertaining as well as informative. I want to give a thumbs up to keyawn jackson for his phenomenal writing skills and his unorthodox way of touching the reader’s emotions, and I also want to say that drama Simpson did a great job bringing the characters to life in this audiobook.with that being said go grab this book or audiobook you will not be disappointed.
