Publisher's summary

Nothing good comes after the third date.

Date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I've left behind. Because, if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he'll profess his undying love, he'll get weird and stalky, or I'll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy. Seriously, it's better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it'll be the same as it ever was. It doesn't matter that he doesn't put a single string on me. Doesn't matter that he's funny and smart and jacked or that he can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I'm built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn't as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

Excellent Story, Fun Characters

I thought this was a great audiobook. The author created some pretty cool characters. You felt like you were right in the book with them. The narrators were really great too. They played the characters to perfection. The storyline was very creative. It was impossible to put down. Looking forward to more from Staci Hart. Of course Joe Arden is one of my favorites.

Couldn't get enough of Bad Penny!

Super fun book! It featured a soft grunge girl(more bubblegum and unicorns than pain and death) who was really hoe-positive with a man who wasn't as wild as her, but could definitely handle her.

Readers who aren't a fan of savage heroines(heroines who aren't traditionally ladylike) may not connect to Penny, but as someone who's tired of the same old heroine, I'm glad the author took a risk with such a fun female MC. Brodie was a twin(I'm a twin, so it's always noteworthy to me ;p) and adventurous but maybe not as much as Penny. They fit well together, and I loved that in comparison, he was clean cut compared to her.

I think they had issues because Penny was afraid of committing(so much she had a 3 date rule to move on before people got hurt) and whatever problems they had, they created, but they reminded me of real 20 something-year-olds. Plus the love scenes were super hot.

My only complaint is that they lived in NYC and never encountered people of color or much marginalized groups at all. All white, abled, picture perfect people(if you don't count tattoos and piercings). The only mention of a PoC was in passing and not the most flattering situation to mention a PoC in the background.

Overall, this is my first read by this author, and while I'd bought it when it released, the moment it came out on audiobook I devoured it in one sitting! Won't be my last read from this author.

5 "Ice Cream" Stars

I can't believe I waited this long to experience my first Staci Hart book! Bad Penny was fabulous! I only have great things to say about this novel that had me laughing so much, but also teary-eyed a few times at the emotion flowing inside this story! I listened to the audiobook and was instantly hooked by the narrators's flawless rendition of the characters.

Penny is a marvelous heroine! I so loved her confidence and humor that shined so bright. She's carefree and a no strings attached kind of girl, but enters Bodi. That guy is seriously the best! I loved their relationship so much that starts with combustible passion that gradually turns into much deeper feelings. Those two had me breathless!

I will definitely read more of Staci Hart's back list novels, because Bad Penny was for me a huge hit!

Great book, superb narration

I'm new to Staci Hart, but I've listened to both Tonic and Bad Penny, and I can't wait to listen to more. Staci Hart's books have a good mix of angst, drama and humor, making the characters relatable even if you are not a tattoo shop owner, tv producer or video game creator. You feel really invested in the characters and the story, and that is the hallmark of a good author.

From a narration perspective, Joe Arden and Kirsten Leigh are spot-on. I've always been a fan of Joe Arden, and I get excited when an author that I love picks him as the narrator - it's like a match made in book nerd heaven. This is the first book that I've listened to that is narrated by Kirsten Leigh, and I really enjoyed her delivery and the depth of emotion that she brought to the reading.

And I sealed the lie with a kiss... - Brodie

Find a Penny pick it up all day long you'll have good luck...

How can I properly express how amazing Penny & Brodie are?! I'm sure my words will fall short but I will definitely try, these two deserve as much praise as I can muster. Penny is easily every girl who lives in a state of their own emotions, I connected with her so intensely in that matter. Where it's so easy to get lost in an obsession of another person to the point where it's all consuming and it is not completely healthy. This being so, Penny has set up boundaries for herself within her relationships introducing the 3 date rule, nothing beyond that saves her from attachment as well others attaching to her. It's working great, except for FUCKING BRAD, but eventually he gets the hint.

Then mint chocolate chip ice cream happens with a side of NERDY BOY BRODIE. And Penny is all too willing to let him happen, I don't blame you sister!! But neither of them are being honest about how they truly feel and inconsistency mixed with hesitation is a bratty combination. While both are attempting to give themselves distance from one another insecurities are starting small brush fires that will surely light shit on fire in true Staci Hart fashion. But... believe me when I say the burn is oh so worth it!

All I can say from here is that this EPILOGUE is her best out of all of her books to date, I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

Characters sucked me in

We have one ugly duckling turned hunky swan, and one independent inked woman. One wants love, the other just some fun. However they both become attached and all their past issues cloud their better judgement. Joe Arden once again gives a great performance, you can’t help but love his character. Recommended listen

Surprising

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book but I found that I loved the characters and their stories. The narrators did an amazing job bringing them to life and telling their story.
