About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward comes a new forbidden enemies-to-lovers story…

It all started with an unexpected phone call.

Two years after my fiancé passed away in an accident, his father died suddenly, leaving Brad’s adult special-needs brother with no one to care for him. The next thing I knew, I was on a cross-country drive to New Hampshire where I’d be moving in to look after Scottie until I could get him into a group home.

The last thing I ever expected?

I wouldn’t be taking care of him alone.

Josh Mathers, my fiancé’s best friend—who also happened to be my sworn enemy—insisted he was the better person for the job. He told me to go back to California, and I told him where he could stick that demand. Our disdain for each other wasn’t anything new. It dated back to a text I’d accidentally read years ago. We hated each other. But we both loved Scottie, so neither of us budged. Now we were living together in a tiny house—with one available bedroom. Thank goodness it was only temporary.

Over time, I realized the broody jerk I thought I knew was different than I’d imagined.

I found myself slowly growing attached to someone I once considered the enemy...and growing attracted to him. Sure, both of us were guilt-ridden over Brad. We were also two grown people with pent-up frustration toward one another—stuck in a cabin in the woods. But this was Josh. I could never.

Sebastian York and Andi Arndt- so good!

I loved every word of this book! Penelope Ward is one of my favorite authors and I loved Carly and Josh’s story so much. It was heart-felt and steamy and emotion and everything! I listened to the audiobook and Sebastian York and Andi Arndt added so much to the story for me.

Mixed feelings

Great story that feels authentic and tells a little understood story about caring for an adult on the spectrum. BUT, the recording is strange and ruins the performance of two normally stellar narrators.

Most of it is performed by Andi Arndt, with Sebastian York occasionally reading a line or two.

In one particularly memorable instance, Ms.Arndt is reading both male and female parts, then we hear Mr. York say a sentence for the male part, only for Ms.Arndt to finish the chapter. Confusing and disjointed and should be either re-edited to remove Mr. York or recorded correctly with both actors.

Not the normal enemies to lovers

Incredible book. This is not your conventional enemies to lovers romance. Emotional, funny, heartwarming, eye-opening listen.

Another amazing book!

I swear, Penelope Ward really knows how to write books that make you just feel every word. I have loved every book she writes and automatically download when a new one comes out. The fact that Andi and Sebastian are narrating it just adds another star to the story. I highly recommend it.

Great story

This is definitely a slow burn! I’m not a fan of them but it’s well worth it. The ending will make your heart melt! Beautiful story well worth the credit!

Read this book!

It has been a while since I’ve listened to Ms. Ward. I am so happy I picked up this listen this has all the feels. I didn’t know if I could take the back-and-forth about the dead fiancé or not but she manages to pena tale that is brought to life by Andi Ardt and Sebastian York. The story is well written. The characters are lovable, if not broken and along with the performance and the storyline leaves, you feeling good about life read this book!
