About this listen
The Piper clan emigrated from Scotland and founded the town of Santo Verde, California. The Gothic Victorian estate built there has housed the family for generations and has also become home to an ancient evil forever linked to the Piper name.
As a boy, Rick Piper discovered he had "the sight". It was supposed to be a family myth, but Rick could see the greenjacks - the tiny mischievous demons who taunted him throughout his childhood - and who stole the soul of his twin brother Robin one Halloween night.
Now a widower with two children of his own, Rick has returned home to build a new life. He wants to believe the greenjacks don't exist, that they were a figment of his own childish fears and the vicious torment he suffered at the hands of his brother. But he can still see and hear them, and they haven't forgotten that Rick escaped them so long ago. And this time, they don't just want Rick. This time they want his children....

Its violent, sordid past is what draws best-selling author David Masters to the infamous Victorian mansion called Baudey House. It’s Halloween night, 1984, in Coventry, Massachusetts, and two families are unraveling. Up and down the street, horrifying secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man.

Midnight. Some call it the witching hour. Others call it the devil’s hour. Here in the graveyard, midnight is a very special time. It is a time when ghostly spirits are at their strongest, when the veil between our world and theirs is at its thinnest. Legend has it, that while most of the world is asleep, the lack of prayers allow the spirits to communicate under the cover of darkness, among the headstones, their whispers rustling in the leaves of the old oak trees. But if you’re here in the graveyard, you can tell yourself it’s just the wind....

Sure To Become A Classic
Wow, I loved this book. Tamera Thorne is a new (to me) author that I've recently discovered and I'm tickled pink. It appears that Tamara has been writing since the early 90's and has quite an extensive back catalog of titles. I'm really looking forward to diving in and reading everything.
Bad Things has the feel and atmosphere of a the horror novels I used to read in the 80's when I was a teenager. I guess now you would call them vintage. This book is gritty, well-written, sometimes funny and downright scary. If you like tales that involve haunted old mansions with secret passages, Halloween and dirty old women, you'll love this book. A++

A Brilliant Story 👏
Another brilliant story by Tamara Thorne! This addictive page turner, wonderfully read by George Kuch, kept me on edge from the beginning to the end. The characters seemed so real, so thought out, I could actually imagine each one as I read along. As of now, Bad Things are on my top list of favorites. I highly recommend to all lovers of fantasy, mystery, thriller, a bit of horror and all around great writing. BRAVO 👏

absolutely brilliant horror writing!
I read this book when it first came out. I then forgot the title and author and spent years trying to figure out the name of the book and how I could get a copy. this story was expertly crafted and flawlessly paced. the characters grew towards one another and each one carried with them their own worth. there was no excess baggage as is so often the case in horror. the narrator was a little rough in the beginning but seemed to find his pace a couple hours in.
this is a must listen!

What an awesome story!
Even though this is a fantasy/horror tale, I found myself chuckling out loud on several occasions.

Horror fans, this is a good one!
I recently stumbled across this author, and am so glad I did! For fans of Stephen King, and Koontz, I would put this book in the mix with their books-what I would consider a “true horror” genre. This is my fourth book of hers that I’ve listened to and was about to move on in search of a different horror author after listening to my second by her (Mother - which felt more like psychological thriller rather than horror..which by the way was really good, just not what I expected) and the hotel one, third. (Which felt way more like a horny teenage girl vampire book) UNTIL I used my credit on this one - Absolutely thrilled that I gave her one more try! Character development was fabulous, storyline was unique, and she managed to tie it all together into a creepy, scary well written work! I definitely prefer this narrator for her writing- well, I can tell nate he needs a little drink of water. Sometimes, his pace, his tone, and his character voice was excellent. This is a definite must buy and will go in my favorite horror books.
I’ll edit this later with her first book I listened to which was also perfect!
I will edit this review with her first book I read that was really fabulous as well.
