About this listen

From nationally best-selling author Rebecca Hagan Lee comes a romance set in England during the 1790s. The Earl of Weymouth insists his son marry before going off to fight the French. Lady Tressingham insists her daughter marry as soon as possible as well. The children, however, are very resistant to the institution of marriage. But they do wed as a matter of convenience. When Griffen returns from war, though, he's a different man than before, and he hopes he can prove his love to Alyssa, the woman he left when she was barely a bride.

Narrator Virginia Leishman's tangy performance is perfect for this intimate and steamy tale. Lee's story abut the triumph of love will entertain and delight.

Excellent Love Story

This is an excellent love story. I am a very big reader of historical romances. Set in the 1790's, the author brings together two individuals that are being pressured by their parents to married. Even though they entered in the married believing one only wants heirs and the other a home of her own. They began to love each other. There are parts of the story that are really sexually graph. You do find yourself looking around to make sure know one sees you with a silly grin on your face. I can't wait until her other books are available to listen to.

EXCELLANT HISTORICAL ROMANCE

Would you listen to Barely a Bride again? Why?

Yes I loved all the characters and the storyline was excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

The Progression of love between the couple and all the secondary characters

What about Virginia Leishman’s performance did you like?

I think she did a good job with the different characters. but you could hear her swallow sometimes which is annoying.

If you could take any character from Barely a Bride out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Alyssa so she can teach me how to make soaps and lotions from the flowers in my garden

Any additional comments?

Where do I start!! Barely a Bride is one of the best Historical Romance stories I have read all year. It will go on my re read list. This was my first Rebecca Hagan Lee book and I am very impressed by her storytelling.

I fell in love with the Free Fellows League and I loved reading there Charter signed in blood. They are just the cutest 9 and 10 year old heirs to titles. They become friends at school and when one of them gets his feelings hurt by a very young female girl they come up with the Free Fellows League. Rules to protect them from marrying and to follow if they have to marry. Typical 9 and 10 year boy stuff. However when they grow up they find its not that easy to follow the rules.

The main characters of this story is Viscount Griffin Abernathy heir to the 17th Earl of Weymouth. Griff is about to join his Calvary The Blues going to fight Napoleon. His father the Earl has decided he must marry first and beget an heir before he leaves to fight. He might die and he is the only child so he must leave an heir. This is just funny!! Griff has one week to marry and get his heir!!

Lady Alyssa Carrollton is the youngest daughter of the Earl Tessingham. Tessingham is only interested in breeding his horse flesh and his fox hounds. You can say he is obsessed with his stables and kennels. Lady Tessingham Alyssa mother wants her daughter to marry a Duke the Duck of Sussex as a matter of fact.

Griff and Alyssa do marry and this starts the best sensual Historical Romance I have read in a long time. There is great character development and a good about of back story for the characters. The story is rich in the banter between the characters. The setting or scenes are perfectly matched to the Georgian Era. There is also sad events along with but with lots of very happy funny moments. You can easy see the love progressing between Griff and Alyssa. The only thing I felt left out was they didn't make the heir!! Its always a great HEA when the next heir is born.

Barely a Bride was an Excellent Story and I got it Free on Amazon what A boon for me!! I Highly Recommend Barely a Bride!!! Well Done Ms. Lee!!

Buy the book instead

The story is sweet and has a few tearful moments, but the narrator is the absolute worst! It sounds like she is chewing gum the whole time.

Too Slow

The story was okay, but dragged by. Nothing to set it apart from a million others, rather than having likable characters. The narration was good.

Enjoyable.

I really like this story because it has a serious side, not just fluff. It still gives you a fluffy look of having a spouse off at war but I like to look through rose colored glasses.

Vanquishing the fear of love

Beautifully written with good characterization and a plausible plot. Hoping for a sequel OK with the same characters.

Not Much Happens

It's kind of ridiculous. School boys make a pact never to marry and if they are forced, not to love their wives.

Now, it's all well and good to have chums, but building one's life around them and deciding against love when you're only eight isn't realistic for anyone. Nor is it a real premise for a book. It's stupid.

This is well written except for the virgin acting like a hooker part. Once again, very unrealistic. I wish the author would come up with better plots.

Just started but the narrator is annoying

You can hear her swallow something. It seems like she is drinking while she is reading and you can hear her swallow and smack her lips! It is annoying!
