Publisher's summary

Beachfront Bakery: A Murderous Macaron is the second book in a charming and hilarious new cozy-mystery series by number-one best-selling author Fiona Grace, whose best-selling Murder in the Manor (A Lacey Doyle Cozy Mystery) has nearly 200 five-star reviews.

Allison Sweet, 34, a sous chef in Los Angeles, has had it up to here with demeaning customers, her demanding boss, and her failed love life. After a shocking incident, she realizes the time has come to start life fresh and follow her lifelong dream of moving to a small town and opening a bakery of her own.

A rude tourist dies after eating his way up and down the boardwalk, and all eyes fall on Allison, as the police blame her new macarons. The macarons have a secret ingredient that is so delicious it has customers lining up and down the boardwalk - but they are not, she knows, the cause of death.

Allison, forced to clear her name and salvage her customers, has no choice but to retrace the victim’s foodie trek up and down the boardwalk, and to figure out what he ate - or who he insulted - that could have gotten him killed.

With her beloved dog at her side, it is a race against time to crack the mystery and solve the crime before she loses her bakery - and her budding romance - for good.

A hilarious cozy-mystery series, packed with twists, turns, romance, travel, food, and unexpected adventure, the Beachfront Bakery will keep you laughing and resisting the pause button late into the night, as you fall in love with an endearing new character who will capture your heart.

LOVE THIS SERIES

I REALLY ENJOY THIS SERIES, WITH 2 CAVEATS. FIRST, ALLIE JUMPS TO TOO MANY CONCLUSIONS, AND I HOPE WE NEVER HAVE TO ENDURE MORE THAN ONE PHONE CALL FROM HER MOTHER AND SISTER. THEY STRESS ME OUT. OKAY, THOSE ARE MINOR POINTS BECAUSE I LOVE ALLIE AND HER BAKERY. THE LOCALE IS PERFECT. LOTS OF PROMISE FOR FUTURE ADVENTURES WITH DELANEY, PIPER, SETH, NATE, CALLAHAN, AND THE FEUDING BROTHERS, NOT TO MENTION HER MISSING DAD. CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 3.

Story good, narration not so much....

I liked the story and the characters, but the narration was very disappointing. The narrator's cadence was too slow, and there were too many re-reads of line text throughout the reading for my liking.

Light hearted mystery

This is a great light hearted mystery. There were several mistakes in this one, such as she bought the dog a cookie but then said he was eating a jumbo bone. However, it was good. Yea

Poor narrator

There are two books in the series so far and I have read both. The narrator irritated me from the first moment when she couldn't properly pronounce "macaron" and the mispronunciations are sprinkled throughout the book. I find myself repeating phrases with the stress appropriate to the intended meaning of a phrase. As for the book itself, I found the protagonist's way of jumping to conclusions without thinking things through difficult to listen to and will most likely not continue with this series.

Come on !

You know I like women characters who do not re-think everything they do. Ally is a wuss, why in the world didn't she fire that screw up! Not my favorite book.

Terrible voice acting, mediocre story

The vocal actor is shockingly inept and annoying. As if the awkward rhythm and horrific accents were not enough, the editing was comically bad - multiple errors that were not edited out, but just coughed and just restarted. Multiple words were wrongly pronounced - the oddest being finicky which became finikaty. The accents, which are inaccurate and awkward, are also inconsistent. The entire book is read like an annunciation practice in acting school, unnatural and awkward.

The story is mediocre, but the writing is juvenile and limited. One example was “I can’t explain,” she explained. 🙄 The protagonist is wishy-washy and a pushover with everyone around her, but somehow suddenly becomes super-confident to confront a suspected killer. Each time she suspects someone she leaps immediately to the conclusion that they did it with no evidence. I would avoid this book. There are better options in this genre.
