Publisher's summary
The bestselling author of The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle returns with a joyful and surprising tale about love, acceptance, and self-discovery.
If Ted Ainsworth were to compare himself to one of the ice-cream flavors made by his family’s company, famous throughout his sleepy Lancashire hometown, it might be vanilla—sweet, inoffensive, and pleasantly predictable. At forty-three, Ted is convinced there’s nothing remotely remarkable about him, except perhaps his luck in having landed handsome, charismatic Giles as a husband.
Then Giles suddenly leaves him for another man, filling his social media feed with posts about #newlove and adventure. And Ted, who has spent nearly twenty years living with, and often for, another person, must reimagine the future he has happily taken for granted.
But perhaps there is another Ted slowly blossoming now that he’s no longer in Giles’s shadow. Someone willing to take chances on new friendships, and even new love. Someone brave enough to pursue his long-held secret dream of becoming a drag queen—and adopting a funny, fierce, and indomitable alter ego who'll help him overturn everyone’s expectations, especially his own …

Story
When my brother suddenly passes away, shattering my family, I’m left to pick up the pieces. Then Vince Mancini knocks on my door. My brother’s best friend from high school—and the boy I used to love—is a funeral director, and he promises to answer whenever I call. With his steadfast nature and warm smile, he becomes the anchor the storm, willing to hold me up as everything falls at me feet. He sees through all my bluster, and it’s easy to remember why I’d hung on his every word.

Love is for other people, not for me. At least that’s what I believed, until I met Julian Hill. The most famous rock star on the planet. A music god with untidy hair and the voice of an angel. I’ll never be anything but out, and he has very good reasons to stay in the closet. He just wants a little privacy. I understand that. Truly, I do. But no one makes me feel the way he does, and I’m pretty sure he has feelings for me as well. Which is inconvenient, since his record label just hired me to sue him. Guess I should’ve sorted things out before I kissed him…oops.

Nora November is alive—but she wasn't always. She was once clinically dead, having spent several minutes under water after a terrible surfing accident she doesn't remember. What she does remember from her time in a coma is her grandfather, who passed away over a year ago. And a beautiful garden. And the most delicious tomato she ever tasted. Now that she's awake again her life has been cleaved in two. In the Before, Nora lived like a ghost, drowning under the weight of her parents' expectations. In the After, she's determined to accomplish the things she left undone before she died.
