About this listen

A beautiful sheriff tracks a serial killer through small town Alabama in the New York Times bestselling author's "fun and satisfying" romantic thriller (Publishers Weekly).

He's their secret admirer, wooing them with phone calls, love letters, and special gifts. From a distance, he admires them. Desires them. Despises them. And when he gets close enough, he kills them all.

Adams County, Alabama, is a friendly place where everyone knows each other—but not well enough, it seems. Someone among them is a serial killer who first romances, then stalks, kidnaps, and kills his victims. It's the first big case for sheriff Bernie Granger, and a chance to prove herself to her new partner, Memphis police detective Jim Norton. But this killer is uncannily smart. It's as if he knows what Bernie is thinking. And his next move is more than shocking—it's chillingly personal.

Contains mature themes.

Good story

Very bad narrator. Everyone sounded like they were mentally challenged. All the women sounded like dumb blonds and all the men sounded like women. It was hard to keep track of who was speaking. Story line was excellent though.

I should have read the reviews

The narrator was the worst I’ve ever listened to. I think I would have maybe given the story a better rating if I could have enjoyed listening to it.

Monotone reader

I really like the book and was glad to hear that Jim Norton was getting a storyline of his own. Moving to a new place, trying to reconnect with his almost teenage son, and starting a new job would be difficult enough but, Jim started his first day dealing with a serial killer and partnering with a female sheriff that he begins to to likes and respect a lot! This book would have been so much more enjoyable to listening to if the reader would not have been so monotone throughout the entire book.
I really liked the book, just not so much to listen to...

Beware! GRAPHIC RAPE Scenes…

Overall, the story is good. But, unlike the other Beverly Barton books I’ve listened to, this book has SEVERAL, DISTURBING GRAPHIC RAPE SCENES! - I accidentally listened to most of the 1st one, before skipping ahead. But was able to skip thru other 3-4 scenes. Skipping them didn’t detract from the overall story, which was pretty good. However, if you’re a rape survivor, or something similar, I wouldn’t suggest this book.

Storyline… Narrator AWFUL

It took every fiber of my being to be able to complete this book. I love Beverly Barton books, but this narrator made my ears bleed. Please don’t ever use her again!

Not my favorite

The storyline line was good for listening while I work. The narrator was awful, someone who is unfamiliar with the author and story line should audition the narrator.
I always enjoy Beverly Barton books. However, this is the last time I listen to one.
