It is simply a marvelous work of art.

I really loved hearing it. I was not at all difficult to go through the chapters. I was eager to finish it. The most memorable scene is the recount of Juda's heritage that was kept and multiplied by the stewardship of Simonedes...

Excellent book, entertaining and inspiring. Particularly around Easter time.

Carol Wallace today excellent job of rewriting her great grandfather‘s novel in a more modern language and style. I found it very easy to follow and was much more enjoyable. I do wish she had spent a little more time detailing the description of the Middle East. Otherwise, a great and entertaining book.

I Absolutely Loved It!

I love how this book has an original story as well as the story of Jesus. There’s the galleys, the chariot race, but also the well-known story of Christ, told from the perspective of someone living in that time. Definitely five stars for every aspect- including performance!

Nostalgia for me

Very much enjoyed the story. I grew up with the movie and was glad I got to listen to the updated version.
A few things in the story that didn’t seem to make sense plot-wise (particularly with Iris). Will have to read the original to see if this was the author’s inconsistency or the result of updating a story set in the past to fit a modern audience.
Overall, definitely enjoyed.

Ben-Hur - The Newer Version

I have seen the original movie many times and wanted to read the book. I read it and this book which the newest movie version used. Obviously, this book, and Lew Wallace's longer version, has the same elements as the movie. However, it is must longer and slower. For the increase investment, you get a great of detail about personalities and events that we left out or combined. There is a great of detail about the region, the habits and circumstances of the times. The discussion of leprosy and the Roman administration were very helpful to frame the story. I recommend the original as well if you want to make the time.

Makes a grand story at last enjoyable.

What made the experience of listening to Ben-Hur the most enjoyable?

The update by Lew Wallace's granddaughter brought this grand story into the 21st century. I listened to the original and it was a tough listen to get through. The language was antiquated, even for the late 19th Century when it was written. But now without the distraction of original style.

What did you like best about this story?

the description of the chariot races is brought to life.
