About this listen

A party of hunters stumbles upon a desiccated human hand, a feisty grandmother meets an untimely death in her own kitchen, and the broken remains of a World War II-era transport plane emerge from the face of a calving glacier. It's all in a day's work for Sergeant Liam Campbell of the Alaska State Troopers. And 60 years ago is like yesterday.

Liam had his hands clenched around the edge of his seat and with every muscle strained upward, keeping that plane in the sky. Oh, God yes, anything but down, please, please. I'll never get drunk again, I'll do all of Miranda every single time no matter how the Supreme Court rules, I'll marry and settle down and live a nice, quiet life, just please don’t let this plane go down with me on board.

But when he risked a glance out the window, down seemed to be coming up very fast indeed, and now he cursed the light of the moon that so clearly illuminated the river beneath them.

I wish there were more

This is one of the best series of mysteries that I have experienced. Maruerite Gaven is one of the best narrators if the best. She brought all of the characters to life and gave them voices suited to their personalities. Liam, Wy and the supporting characters are rich realistic well developed characters. I'm going to miss them and I wish there waere books to continue their story. If I could give them 10 stars I would.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series and this one is no exception. I hope the series continues.

Very interesting book

This one didn’t seem to have as much of the detailed Alaskan bush as her others. It was interesting to learn more about Wy’s family history. I felt this book ended leaving some unfinished parts of Liam & Wy’s story, maybe that’s why over a decade later she’s releasing book 5 on 2/4/21. Thou there was quite a bit of their story in one of the later Kate Shugak books, where they all worked a case together. Great narration by Marguerite Gavin.

A Good Read

Another Liam Campbell mystery, combined with romance and history. What better? Set in a small Alaska town, the discovery of a DC-3/C-47 embedded in a glacier sets ripples throughout the town. The mystery is topped off with a couple of romances and it's all a good story.

Stabenow is a winner

Liam and Wye are a great couple; loving, rivals and fiercely loyal. Look forward to following their romance in the bush.

Alaskan Adventure 60 years in the Making

This is Dana Stabenow's 4th book in the Liam Campbell series. Narrated by for the 4th time by Maruerite Gavin. I can't say enough about this series. I love the glimpse into the Alaskan bush, the small town feel, and how centuries pass where very little changes.
This book involves another death in the small town and a mystery that may go back 60 years. When hunters stumble upon a plane crash and bring back a severed hand holding a gold piece Liam must secure a scene that is unreachable by humans due to glacier ice. Sounds easy until others hear there may be gold on the glacier and are willing to Rick their life to reach it.
Liam also having been promoted to Seargent after closing a major case in the previous book must choose to stay in his small town or move to Ancorage. This affects his personal and professional life and weighs heavy on his mind and heart throughout the book.
If you are a Liam Campbell fan you will enjoy this book as it wraps up many story lines from the three previous books.
So as to not promote spoilers please read the previous 3 books "Fire and Ice", "So Sure of Death", and "Nothing Gold Can Stay". All of which may be purchased at Audible.com

Not as good as the first three.

Would you try another book from Dana Stabenow and/or Marguerite Gavin?

Absolutely. I love the story lines and the Alaskan background!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The relationships were interesting but the ending was disappointing and anticlimactic.

What about Marguerite Gavin’s performance did you like?

Marguerite is a great narrator and really gives life to the story and characters.

Did Better to Rest inspire you to do anything?

I will start Stabenow's other series.

Any additional comments?

I hope there is a fifth!

Nothing Special

A good series but this one is pedestrian. If you can find it on sale, then buy it but don't pay full price.
