About this listen

Young and idealistic, Tori Hogan travels to Kenya as an intern for Save the Children, intent upon doing her part to improve the lives of refugees. But the cynicism of a young African boy changes Tori’s life and sets her on a course to reconsider everything she thought she knew about helping those in need.

Years later, Tori returns to Africa and embarks on a journey through Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, searching for the truth about what does and does not work in international aid. While there are glimmers of hope along the way, she discovers an aid industry mired in waste, ineffective solutions imposed by well-intentioned outsiders, and humanitarian efforts that do more harm than good.

Beyond Good Intentions is both a moving story of one woman’s personal journey and an urgent call to arms to change the way we offer aid overseas. Tori’s candid reflections on international aid shine a light on our ability to improve the lives of others, often in ways we would never expect.

Don't waste your time!

Would you try another book from Tori Hogan and/or Robin Miles?

Never!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator was fine, it was the content that sucked!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Beyond Good Intentions?

Just too much to list.

Any additional comments?

When I bought this book I was expecting so much more than just someone whinning about America GIVING food and money to a Country much older than America and should be much much more established. America has given Billions of dollars in aid to Africa and now according to this author they(Africa) want's to DICTATE to those countries giving it aid how and what to give? Are you kidding me! Yes we should teach the less fortunate how to fish instead of just giving them the fish, but no way in heck do you have the right to tell someone or a country how and what to GIVE you. What kinda of a "special" moron are you? Geez, then to re-patriot these folks to America, WHY in the sam hill would we do that? I/We fought for what America is today and now you just want to give it away? Like heck! Author is just TOTALLY clueless to the WORLD!
