About this listen

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Colleen Gleason, writing as Joss Ware, comes the award-winning paranormal romance series set in a devastated world.

Everything they knew is gone... From the remnants of devastation, five men emerge with extraordinary new powers. They are humankind's last hope, but they cannot survive this devastated world alone.

When Dr. Elliott Drake emerges from a cave after traveling fifty years through time, the world as he knew it is gone. Cities are overgrown jungles, and what's left of civilization has been repressed by crystal-wearing immortal beings. But even more unsettling: Elliott has acquired an extraordinary ability--the power to heal.

But even that gift, in a world that lacks the technology and infrastructure of his past, is a two-edged sword for Elliott.

Jade Kapiza, who'd been imprisoned by the immortal beings, has been in hiding for years. But now she's determined to help the human race fight back against the control of her captors. She can trust no one...but when Elliott comes into her life, he pushes at her defenses and begins to tear down the walls she's built so carefully.

Yet the mysterious doctor seems to have secrets of his own. Can Jade trust Elliott with her heart, even as they risk their lives to save a band of innocents?

And can Elliott find a new place for himself--a home--in this new, ravaged world?

Sexy Post Apocalyptic Series With Zombies

Dr. Elliot Drake and his friends were exploring caves in Sedona when the world ended. All of them lost consciousness only to awake and find that fifty years have passed. And they've not aged one bit. That was six months ago. Now they've found a group of teens that may finally lead them to Envy, the largest known society of survivors. Their hope is to find someone who has lived through the event and can explain to them what has happened.

Jade has only ever known this world. When she meets Elliot, nicknamed "Dred," she is sure that he is hiding a dark secret. But she never suspects the truth. Jade has fought to survive this long and she's not planning on stopping long enough to let this man into her heart. In a world where everything seems lost, though, hope may be the one thing they have left.

This is the kind of book that makes you want to rush into the next series installment immediately! Ware has created a captivating world with incredible detail. BEYOND THE NIGHT is a great balance of romance, paranormal, and post-apocalypse zombie-ridden future.

Sebastian Fields was outstanding with the delivery of the story.

Great plot!

I really enjoyed this book. It was slow at the beginning and a bit hard to get into but then picked up. The characters were interesting and engaging. I did think the narration left something to be desired though. The range of voices was very limited.

NEVER Read Zombie Stories, LOVED This One!

Where does Beyond the Night, Envy Chronicles Book 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really enjoyed this story, it ranks up at the top of the books I've listened to this year.

What about Sebastian Fields’s performance did you like?

Sebastian Field nailed the performance. A good narrator can make or break a story. Some books that I've loved were ruined by a poor narrator. He did an excellent job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

As I wrote in the title, I NEVER read end of the world, apocalyptic zombie stories. NEVER. Cannot tolerate them. The author sent me the voucher for this story in exchange for a fair review and once I started, the thought occurred to me that I really didn't want to listen to this. Once I started listening, I actually thought, "What have I gotten myself into?" But having agreed, I hated to back out. Glad I didn't, because the story made complete sense. It is wonderfully written, has a well conceived back story, and left me with a good feeling inside afterwards. I can highly recommend this.

Beyond The Night, Envy Chronicles Book 1

Would you consider the audio edition of Beyond the Night, Envy Chronicles Book 1 to be better than the print version?

I like to read. I enjoy the process of reading print books. And I have never taken advantage of an audiobook before this one. But I can see how listening to a book has its pluses. That said, If listening to books is your thing, then I would recommend this audio over the print version. If you're going on a road trip or traveling, I would recommend this audio over the print version.

What did you like best about this story?

I've never listened to an audio book before. I tried once to use the 'voice' function on my Kindle Fire, but the robotic reading annoyed me, so I turned it off and read the old fashioned way. But Colleen Gleason offered up a few copies of the audio book of her Envy Chronicles. I've read the Envy Chronicles paperbacks. But I was curious about the audio version, so I took her up on her offer.

Dystopian is not my 'go to' genre. But I like Colleen's historical novels, like her style, and am up to reading whatever she writes. I won't go into what the book is about. Between the book blurb and the many reviews, the story line is already there. She's got it all. A very interesting story about 5 men who go exploring and find themselves in the future after an apocalypse. They encounter groups of people existing and trying to rebuild a new civilization from scratch. There are 'monsters' in the dark bent on disruption, power and control. There is mystery, suspense, and a direct connection between the characters and the past and present. And what Colleen Gleason book would there be without romance and hot sex.

But this review is also for the audio telling of Colleen's story. The narrator of Book 1 is Sebastian Fields. He has a very engaging voice without sounding too affected. Although he tries to distinguish vocally between the characters, he doesn't go over the top with his interpretations. And because of Colleen's expertise in story telling, Sebastian has no problem drawing the listener into the story so that you feel like you are a part of this new civilization.

Colleen Gleason has an audio book with an entertaining story and an engaging narrator, I have no problem recommending it to lovers of the dystopian or romance.

Which character – as performed by Sebastian Fields – was your favorite?

Honestly, I enjoyed Sebastian Fields interpretation of the gangas. He manages to pull off a difficult task without going over the top.

YUCK

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I couldn't get into the book. I first tried it in paperback. Then I tried it in Audio. didn't finish either one-I just couldn't get into this series!

Would you recommend Beyond the Night, Envy Chronicles Book 1 to your friends? Why or why not?

No, didn't care for the plot at all, and couldn't even stand to finish the book.

What three words best describe Sebastian Fields’s performance?

He's too monotone; Maybe if there was a better narrator, I may have finished the audio version.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

a different plot

Any additional comments?

Book was a disappointment, compared to her other writings. I normally always finish a book, but just couldn't on this one.

Love the story line

What did you love best about Beyond the Night, Envy Chronicles Book 1?

I loved the story line that Colleen has written. She has a very creative mind, and I love reading her work

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the story line. The character interaction keeps you listening and keeps you intrigued.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I honestly wasn't fond of the narrator. He sounded monotone, and he sounded like he wasn't into the story. I didn't hear any excitement in his voice. The various accents that he did do gave it some depth, but when he was attempting to sound like a female, he failed. There should have been a female narrator along with the male.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Trying to live through the night.

Very Exciting!

It took me a moment to get into the book and I almost stopped listening but I decided I would give it a chance. I'm glad I did. The story picked up it's pace and had me on the edge of my seat many times. I will definitely continue listening to this series.

The Narrator did a good job. His voice wasn't annoying and he did well in changing his voice when he was reading different characters.

My favorite part of this story occurs towards the end of the book and I don't want to ruin it for other readers. The heroine's story is well developed but there were a few other details I would have liked to know about her. Overall this book is definitely worth a credit.
