About this listen

When bestselling romance author Ellie Aarons finds herself with chronic writer’s block, she’s pretty sure all she needs is a change of scenery. A beautiful lakeside cottage with her cat seems like a good idea. But she’s wrong. She needs more than a change of scenery—she needs a muse.

And that's why it’s so irritating that she’s drawn to the enigmatic but grumpy Duke of Windermere, who owns the estate she’s staying on. They don’t get along—not in the slightest. They could not be more different, which is why it’s so irritating that Max seems to be the muse she’s been looking for. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t help but picture him as the hero in her next book. Oh well. There’s really not a lot she can do about it—the muse wants what the muse wants—except Sir Winston Purrchill keeps exploring the goat barn, and Max’s delivery of him for the fiftieth time means he sees her manuscript open on her laptop. He knows instantly that she’s writing about him. The story she’s written reflects their entire relationship until now...but that spicy scene? That hasn’t happened—yet.

Max is ready to compromise: he’ll give her the inspiration she needs for her novel, but she has to stop asking why he’s so against the relationship his grandmother desperately wants him to have. With her deadline looming, Ellie has no other option but to agree. She just hopes that she won’t do what her heroine is doing—and fall in love with the duke.

All the feels!

I cried tears of joy and heartbreak several times throughout. I laughed hysterically at Esme and the goats, especially their names. But, Winston aka Houdini reincarnated was my fav little scoundrel. Max and Ellie's story was funny, heartbreaking, steamy, and sweet. Who doesn't love the grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers trope? Shakira Shute and Will Watt were absolutely perfect together. I'm definitely going to grab more Emma Hart audiobooks with their narration! *chef's kiss*

The story was good but the performance was 🌟🌟

The story was nice. And I laughed which is what I wanted. The goat names were hilarious! And who can't help love a cat name Winston Sir perch-a-lot 🤣. I like thr dual narratives because you get two perspectives. I didn't too much care for the grandmother. I don't think insulting people is ever OK no matter what age you are or of noble blood. The grandmother, called Esme, did have redeeming qualities.
Overall I think all it was a well-written story I just didn't like the way it ended kind of abruptly.
Lastly there was an issue with a book editor and shady business but I feel like that storyline fizzled without an end, so why was it there in the first place??
✨the stem was about a medium.

Sweet story, fun banter, nice resolution

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like Emma Hart's writing, but some of her books don't grab me the way this one did. It isn't too angsty: the MMC is willing to work on his issues and the main characters actually talk about most problems instead of brooding over them separately. The banter is fun and while this isn't fall on the floor hilarious, it is a nice and mostly light-hearted RomCom. There are some spicy scenes, but it's not excessive and so allows for an actual plot and character development.

Will Watt and Shakira Shute are outstanding, as usual. You really can't go wrong with either of these narrators. My only complaint, if you can even call it that, is that we don't hear enough of Will. (He and Steve West/Shawn East are my two main voice crushes.)
