Publisher's summary

From USA Today and Amazon Charts best-selling author Meghan Quinn, and narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Vanessa Edwin, comes a new stand-alone age-gap rom-com featuring a new cast of characters that will immediately have you hooked. This steamy, laugh-out-loud enemies-to-lovers small-town romance delivers the perfect happily ever after every romance lover craves.

Why am I holding a box of stolen memorabilia in my arms? It's called...revenge.

After failing my last semester of grad school, I decided to come back to my hometown and wallow in my boyfriend’s sympathetic arms. Instead, he proceeded to dump me...for being boring!

Now, I'm not typically a spiteful person, but there's only so much I can take. Hence why I’m holding the box of his most cherished possessions...stolen possessions no less!

The plan? To give the box back to its rightful owner and rat my ex out. How’s that for being boring?

But plans never go the way you want them, because instead of dropping off the box with a note, I’m pinned with the crime by the true owner of the box himself.

Hayes Farrow is grumpy, arrogant, and stupidly hot in a way that makes it hard to even look him in the eye. Not to mention he’s my brother’s nemesis so I fully intended to stay far far away from the gorgeous jerk.

But to add insult to the injury that has become my life as of late, Hayes gives me two options: Turn me into the police and press full charges...or work it off. How could I possibly work for someone I can't stand? Easy, I don't look good in orange.

But working for Hayes isn't as horrible as I thought it would be. The way I hate him begins to turn into something else—something I never thought I'd feel. But the way my brother reacts when he finds out I’m working for his enemy? He’d prefer me in prison orange.

❤️❤️ ROMANTIC COMEDY AT ITS BEST ❤️❤️

I think this has got to be Meghan’s best book ever because every single part of this listen was phenomenal. I loved the feisty, quick-witted, friction-filled banter that was funny, sharp and filled with sass, spit and attitude. I loved how the waters slowly calmed to let reason and respect in allowing the weapons down lowering of walls, crossing of many boundaries and giving in to their undeniable chemistry a chance. They try to take it slow but thirty-six yr old handsome sexy Rockstar Hayes and twenty-four yr old angry Hattie can’t help the sizzles and zings between them. Hattie has just broken-up with her boyfriend, upended her life, failed her semester, has no job, no roof and is adrift but she is also dealing with grief after losing her beloved sister and the fallout that’s been having on the dynamics of the rest of the family all hurts. Was it blackmail.. or was it a lifeline that Hayes throws for the both of them when he offers her his ultimatum? Well, the sex was powerful and the dirty talk fuelled the flames, the sweet and heart was ohhhhh so deliciously sweet, the whole storyline was entertaining, emotional and had drama and beautiful family dynamics. However, the sucker-punch, when it came, hit hard and it broke hearts.. because Hattie may be grieving, but Hayes has some seriously deep-routed fears and damage too.

Worth a credit? Absolutely 100% YES. Because, apart from having all the many many reasons above, it’s also told duet-style which brings realism and flow to the whole storyline.. and then, when that narration is done by two of Audible’s top tier voice actors, then WOW it’s a joyous book to listen to. And there’s a supportive bff, a wonderful caring brother and a snappy sister who all need their own touch of Meghan Quinn small-town Almond Bay magic too 🤞.

Wonderful Story & Listen🎧 Hilarious & Emotional!

Meghan Quinn does it again, and pens another winner of a novel, a standalone enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride like no other. I experienced every emotion while listening to this book, the witty dialogue and hilarious laugh out loud scenes are plentiful, but there are some scenes that are so moving they bring a tear to your eye. The story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. Nothing else mattered except what was going to happen next with the two lead characters, Hattie Rowley and Hayes Farrow. There are some amazing secondary/side characters and I am hoping they will get their own books too. Hattie has not had the best of years, after struggling and failing her classes in grad school she went back home to regroup, only to get dumped by her boyfriend. While packing her things, she saw her boyfriend had a box of his bosses belongings, so she took that box to return the items and hopefully get him fired. Little did she know Hayes had already fired him. And since he needs a new assistant, he hires Hattie, not that she wanted the job, but the way he put it she had no other choice. Hayes and Hattie’s brother were good friends until they had a fallout, Hattie was young at the time and did not know the details, she only knows he is the enemy and now she had to be creative in what she told her brother and sister, not only about why she came home but who she was working for. The chemistry between these two was undeniable, though Hayes would not cross a line with her, but they could only deny each other for so long. I loved how everything played out in the book, each had their own issues to deal with and work out, but I thought they were perfect together and for each other. Hayes hides behind a hardened facade, afraid to put himself out there, but he gets some wise words from an unexpected ally that opens his eyes and breaks down the walls surrounding his heart. There is never a dull moment in this book, the writing and plotting is fantastic, the witty dialogue is absolutely brilliant, and the romance is steamy. Meghan Quinn, thank you for another entertaining and amazing story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Meghan Quinn cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. Vanessa Edwin and Teddy Hamilton were fabulous portraying these characters, giving each a voice that was fitting to their personality and demeanor. Hamilton played Hayes with perfection, a broody rockstar, and Edwin nailed it as Hattie, grasping all sides of her personality, from her fierceness to her vulnerabilities. Both were naturals at handling the witty and back-and-forth dialogue, landing the humor effortlessly and with ease. They were fantastic performing the roles of the secondary characters too. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhanced an already brilliant story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Bruhhhh

Ok so I laugh quite a bit! One thing Meghan Quinn will give you is a good laugh and some STEAM!!! Loved that!!! But the dead sis narrative was a lil overkill fam… like daaayum. And my good sis main character needs a spine… I felt like she was letting everyone walk over her and kept having woe is me my sister blah blah like little girl get it together and get these people together! And the MOMENT that lil boy kicked me out of his house like that when his momma showed up I would have NEVAAAAAA seen his face again without the utmost groveling. Other than that the book was great lol the narrators were 100/100 couldn’t have asked for better! And that Teddy Hamilton… sir you are the Brad Pitt of book narrator world. Mk byeeeeee

What a ride!

I have come to adore Meghan’s books and social media posts. And I loved all the Easter eggs in this book!! But I did not expect the roller coaster of emotions this book has. They just made the whole book more relatable to me. The narrators were amazing, giving such authenticity to Meghan’s story. It is a beautiful story about a man and a woman and her whole family (not in a bad way though). I must say, favorite side character has to go either to Hayes’ grandma or Chewy Charles!

I really hope that this will be a series, with the siblings and the best friends finding their own books!!

The way I loved this audio!

The Way I Hate Him by Meghan Quinn may have “hate” in the title but by the end you will be in love with this book and these characters.

In typical Meghan fashion, Hayes and Hattie’s story will have you laughing out loud from the snarky banter, the nervous ramblings and the insane mishaps. This book will also melt your heart with the bittersweet moments dealing with loss and recovery, abandonment and reconnection. The smoldering chemistry between Hayes and Hattie will have your earbuds overheating!

Teddy Hamilton and Vanessa Edwin’s performances hit all the high notes. Teddy’s intense yet charming portrayal of Hayes draws you in from the beginning. Vanessa gives such quiet vulnerability and strength to Hattie and I adored her kid voice for Hattie’s four-year-old niece. Both Teddy and Vanessa brought the side characters to life brilliantly, too.

I can’t wait for more tales from Almond Bay!

Riding the Rainbow of Emotions.

First of all, I adore these narrators. I have never listened to something by them that I haven't liked. They take the words on paper and make it a magical listening experience.

Now. This story had me feeling all kinds of ways. I would be at the highest of highs, giggling my head off over the banter, especially between Maggie and Hattie. And then I would be at the lowest of lows, ugly crying in my car on the way to work.

But this is what I love about MQ books. Every single one has me riding the rainbow of emotions.

I love Hattie and Hayes together. I really felt like you could see their relationship evolve, though the 3rd act breakup felt a little predictable. I think all of the side characters are what really brings these books to life. And all of the Almond details in town were adorable.

Background noise

Background noise on female narration sounds like a bubbling evaporation machine or something at certain parts. Idk why but it was driving me crazy.

Story good but kinda long!!
