Publisher's summary

When an armored car hijacking leaves two men dead, Arizona Sheriff Jim Weber takes the crime personally, because one of the dead men is his brother-in-law. His hunt for the killers leads him into a world of sordid sex, deceit, and violence, with a suspect list that includes jilted women, a family of anti-government survivalists, and the beautiful wife of the richest man in town.

With a plot that has more twists and turns than an Arizona mountain road, a cast of characters you won't soon forget, and a shocking ending that shakes the town of Big Lake to its very foundation, this first book in the Big Lake series will keep you captive to the very end!

Good story. . but

Good story for when written, but it didn't age well. I recommend this book if you are reading others by same author.

Always Something Happening

What did you like best about this story?

There was always something happening. It never got boring. Just when I thought I was getting an idea of who did it the author added another twist to keep me guessing.

What about Bruce Miles’s performance did you like?

The narrator had distinctive voices for each of the main characters and his dramatic reading was very entertaining. I doube anyone else could do better.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Ending caught me flat footed

I normally don’t write reviews, however, I think this one deserves one. Excellent performance- brought the characters to life! I didn’t think I would like the story but with all the twists & turns you want to know what is next. I usually know by 1/2 to 1/3 who the villain is but this time I was way off. I look forward to the next in the series.

Number one in the series, it is a good introduction to some of
characters who come and go in the little town of Big Lake as you read through the books. Some were better than others but all are worth a listen. This one was the
least interesting to me which leaves you a treat as you choose to read others. Each is a stand alone as well as a series support.

No laudable characters

Story was good for a car ride but had no complex character development. Story kept you guessing till the end who was the culprit. Reminds me of Longmire but without the character complexity. Not reading next in series but narrator was excellent

I would loved to have listened to it all at once if I had the time. The story line
kept my interest. Can't wait for the next one to come out at Audible.com

Longmire Like Mystery

This book reminded me somewhat of the Longmire series, with a good hearted sheriff and eccentric residents in a small western town. I liked that the characters were slightly flawed, but struggling to adapt to changes.. The ongoing feud between Jim (sheriff) and the mayor was amusing, if somewhat over the top.

I would have given this book a 5 star rating if I had thought the killer's identity made any sense - can't say more without spoiling the surprise. Yes, anyone can probably kill given the right circumstances but I thought someone capable of cold blooded murder would have shown other negative personality traits. In a town of less than 5,000 people (mostly nosey), there are no secrets.

Big Lake

This is a great mystery about life in a little town. Jim Weber is the sheriff and there is an armed robbery and two people killed. He has to solve it with help from his deputys. The town is full of interesting characters. I like books about small towns with good characters and good narrating. This is a five star book in my opinion. Bruce Miles does a great job narrating this book. This is my first time hearing him. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.
