About this listen

When Hani, an Egyptian diplomat under Akhenaten, is sent to investigate the murder of a useful bandit leader in Syria, he encounters corruption, tangled relationships, and yet more murder. His investigation is complicated by the new king’s religious reforms, which have struck Hani’s own family to the core.

Hani’s mission is to amass enough evidence for his superiors to prosecute the wrongdoers despite the king’s protection - but not just every superior can be trusted. And, maybe, not even the king!

love good historical stories, especially those prior to the industrial revolution. Sadly, this is one I'll have to read in print. I struggled with a narration that has as much animation as the reading of a grocery list, and finally gave up.

bad narration

I am very disappointed in this book because the narration is really awful! The narrator speaks in near monotone which was so distracting that I did not make it through the first chapter! Such a shame because I was expecting a properly narrated story and the possibility of several others - there was so much potential. What a waste of time and effort. Maybe the books are in print, because I definitely will not buy another in audio!

Narrator ruined a possibly good story.
