Publisher's summary

Haunted by the memory of a murdered father, Sam Jack struggles with a failing marriage and a failing career as a thoroughbred trainer. Enter Emily Brandt. Driven to near madness over losing her husband and son in a devastating barn fire, Emily involves Sam in an intricate plot to save her farm that begins the day her lone-surviving broodmare gives birth. Enter Black Deuce. And enter jockeys and grooms. Enter mob bookmakers and gamblers. Enter horse owners, racetrack officials, and an extraordinary number of other characters who join to tell the story of a racehorse and a man determined not to give up his dream....

In Black Deuce Stan D. Jensen uses his intimate knowledge of horse racing to tell an exciting, tension-filled story, a story in which good and evil engage in their eternal duel to the sound of thundering hooves....

"I loved this book! The author nailed it! You speak to a racehorse through your hands!" (Randy Meier, Chicago Hall of Fame jockey)

"After over 40 years in racing, I can say the author has left no stone unturned, he tells his story dark side and all, and in a meticulously detailed way even the layman can understand. Great writing!" (Charles Chiple, Clerk of Scales Hawthorne Racecourse)

About the Author: Stan D. Jensen received his bachelor's degree in history and his master's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa. On the money!

This book covers all angles of the Thoroughbred racing world accurately. Finished it in only two sessions and found myself taken right there through most of it.

Compelling race horse story

Black Deuce is an exceptional, behind the scenes account of a dedicated horse trainer and associates managing and training a champion colt. The story navigates the listener through all the ups and downs, the good and the bad, the fears and uncertainties, the people and family relationships, and an incite to a horses mind.
All these emotions are enhanced by the excellent professional narration by Thomas Block. His ability to bring out each characters voice inflections make for a great listeners experience.

Excellent

Mr Block did an excellent job reading and producing this audio book. The use of music throughout was just enough to enhance the listen without overpowering the story.
The story itself is wonderfully written with just enough back story and side plots to make it interesting but not jumbled and hard to follow the Characters are interesting carries and well developed and the plot twists imaginative and enjoyable.
A non horse person is sure to enjoy this fast passes story but for us horse lovers it’s especially enjoyable.

Baaaaad....

I only got half a chapter in and couldn’t listen any longer. I guess it’s aimed toward guys? The narrator sounded like my grandfather trying to record his voicemail greeting for the first time. Chap..ter.....th....ree. (I had to give a star rating to story or I couldn’t post the review. I didn’t stick around long enough to know what the story was.)
