About this listen

Tarris Marie’s debut novel intertwines crime, romance, and the ‘90s era. A refreshing new voice for urban romance lovers and women’s crime thriller connoisseurs.

Before her Hollywood dreams were shattered, Pearle Monalise Brown was the tenacious aspiring actress from Compton's unforgiving, scarred streets. Never broken, Pearle switches gears to a fallback plan—resorting to her beauty and acting skills to swindle money and expensive jewels. When she's hired by the Colombian cartel to steal a priceless Basquiat from the debonair kingpin and art collector, Blaque, her talents might not be enough to keep her from falling into a trap she never saw coming.

Blaque is sagacious and handsome—not to mention the legacy of two powerful organized crime families: the Laurent’s—known dons hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, and the Savage’s—a sophisticated syndicate with criminal enterprises across the U.S. As Blaque and Pearle become passionately entangled, Pearle falls prey to a darker underworld. Time is ticking. Lives are at stake. Will these love outlaws be able to outsmart their enemies, or will they wage an all-out war, leaving the bodies to fall wherever they may?

“Both inspirational and a delight to watch, Tarris Marie is proof that limits and barriers exist only in our minds.” —N’TYSE, national bestselling author and film producer of Trap Soldiers

Must Read for the Culture!!!

This is the sexy crime fiction I didn't know I needed in my life. This book sucks you in from the start. I loved the character development, the 90s vibes, the infusion of black culture references, and the well-spoken Spanish throughout! Because this story was so well written and the details flowed; I could visualize everything. I laughed, I shed a tear, I was in shock, I think I experienced every emotion bc I was hanging on to every sentence. Absolutely loved the 90s song references as a perfect tie-in. Kudos to the actors on this they did their thing!!!! I am looking forward to what else this author has in store.

Excellent for Binge Listening: Love & Crime

I "binged listened" to this book over a weekend, and was hooked from the start. With all
of the descriptive details, I could see everything-the people, clothes, cars, scene and even hear the music. I felt like I knew these people. This book is an immersion into the late 1990's culture with a spin on survival, art, crime and love.

Bonnie & Clyde

This story takes place in the best era ever…the 90s! That was my first hooked moment. The nostalgia of the times was prevalent in the dress, the fashion, and the cars. Pearle and her brother Goldie are from the trenches of Compton. When their dad is arrested for unsavory dealings, Pearle uses her acting training and teams up with her brother to get money for their family through robbing rich & affluent men. When the cartel hires Pearle & Goldie for an art heist of a Basquiat painting from known international drug lord Christian “Blaque” Laurent Savage, the last thing Pearle expects is to fall in love with him and worse, for him to fall in love with her. This book was filled with high octane plots and schemes at every turn. Through it all, Pearle & Blaque try to hold onto their love as they fight against family, FEDs, and foes for their lives! Oh and the sex was sexing! Ebony Mendez & Ace Bentley did their thing and they didn’t play on this narration! Great job for a debut novel!

Captivating Page Turner

Tarris Marie did her big one with this debut novel. Blaque Pearle was a captivating page turner that sucks you in from the beginning. The characters were relatable and the story was intriguing. I hope we have a sequel and cannot wait for Tarris’ next book.

What a fantastic read! From start to finish

Blaque Pearle had me completely hooked. The characters were gritty yet so charming that I felt like I was right in the middle of all their situations, experiencing it all firsthand. While the overall story was captivating, it was Blaque and Pearle’s love story that really pulled me in.

I initially picked up this book after seeing a post about it on TikTok, and I’m so glad I did! Pearle, in particular, stood out to me as a strong and resilient female character. I also appreciated how the sex scenes were balanced, never overwhelming the story but adding just the right touch.

Set in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the vibe of the book made me feel like I was reading a DMX love story—it had that raw, urban energy that kept me turning pages. Goldie’s chapter was a standout for me, as it tied up so many loose ends, answering a lot of the questions that had been lingering.
