About this listen

This book has all the ingredients of an exciting action film because it's a highly entertaining coming-of-age martial arts memoir about a karate-crazed teen who discovers that his martial arts heroes are deep into drug, drinking, and debauchery.

John Graden joined the Florida Karate Academy at the height of the Bruce Lee Kung Fu Boom in the 1970s.

Within a decade, he became a protégé of the legendary Joe Lewis, twice voted as the greatest karate fighter of all time.

With humor and unflinching honesty, this story is a pause-resister.

John's speaking quality has always impressed me. This captivating narrative takes you through the timeline of his. relationship with his instructor during some very formative years of his life.

This book is extremely well written, pulling back the curtain on some of the top REAL martial artists in the early days of the American karate craze. The author masterfully combines his experiences with first hand recounts of incredible events, in a book that reads like a thriller.

Riveting. I couldn’t stop listening from the first chapter.
