About this listen

An evil being has been sealed away for centuries in a sarcophagus never meant to be opened, waiting patiently for his chance to rise again. Now, brought to the Egyptology Department of Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum, the seals and spells that imprisoned him chipped away from his discoverers, he has reached forth to claim the minds and souls of Toronto’s unsuspecting citizens. And only three people have any sense that something is wrong….

For Henry Fitzroy, it begins with terrifying images of the sun, a marker of death for a vampire. Fearing for his sanity, he turns to his sometimes-lover, private investigator Vicki Taylor, for help. As the two struggle to cope with Henry’s obsession, Vicki’s closest friend and former partner, Mike Celluci, is following up on two mysterious deaths at the museum, certain that a force from beyond the grave is responsible for everything.

What made the experience of listening to Blood Lines the most enjoyable?

I purchased all of the books in this series because they were recommended by a friend. What she failed to tell me was that she struggled through the narration. I really like the characters but if I see any more books narrated by this same person, I will not purchase them, period.

Would you be willing to try another one of Justine Eyre’s performances?

I like these stories. Especially as an audio. The suspense and the twist in plot is great for in the car on long trips or just driving to work.

Best combo of supernatural + police procedural I’ve ever seen. And truly unique woman-centered character and plot arc.

SO excellent - badass, truly unique female lead plus her 2 “guys,” and oh yeah one is a vampire. The other Leaf’s fan.

Love the characters and the variety of villians in the stories.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Vicky's mother. She lends a sense of normalcy to Vicky's abnormal world

Horrible reader

but for once it wasn't because of Mike Celluchi. I actually kind of liked his character this book, hmm, progress perhaps? No, the struggle came from the prison sequence and a villain who seemed almost impossible to beat. I wasn't quite taken with how our trio were able to beat him, but, I honestly can't complain too much.

Oh, and for all of the reviews that say the narrator is awful and grating: I don't get it. she's definitely not my favorite but I also would not characterize her as grating. A little breathy, yeah, but she's been able to create and maintain different enough sounding voices for the male and female characters that I really don't mind the breathy. I've honestly come to appreciate her reading.

Struggled a bit with this one...
