Publisher's summary

New Mexico game warden Jodi Luna disrupts a murderous wilderness adventure in this thrilling second installment from Alisa Lynn Valdés, New York Times bestselling author of The Dirty Girls Social Club.

Former poetry professor Jodi Luna hasn’t quite adjusted to life as a game warden. Her boss thinks she’s better with animals than humans, and the man she’s seeing wants a real relationship. Still reeling from her husband’s death, Jodi has to admit that she keeps people at a distance.

After her new friend, wealthy actress Claudia Evans, gathers with family members in the New Mexico wilderness, Jodi gets some unsettling news—that Claudia’s brother-in-law is missing. Eager to help, Jodi ventures into the wild to investigate, only to be thwarted by a blizzard that leaves the entire group stranded at a fishing lodge.

Jodi is no stranger to extreme weather, but when these reluctant adventurers start turning up mauled around the snowed-in lodge, Jodi suspects the worst: this was no bear. This was murder.

And inside the snowy confines of this rustic hideaway, everyone is fair game…

…for a killer.

Mediocre

The reader did not change the inflection of her voice very well and at times sounded bored. The writer put too many “she said or he said” etc. It was very distracting. The basis of the story was good just not presented as well as it could have been.

Blood Mountain (Jodi Luna)

This is the second book about Jodi. I love books about game wardens, wildlife mystery. This is not your typical game warden book. There is more of a storyline and this book had me hooked from the beginning. The first book (Hollow Beast) was also great and you got to learn all about Jodi Luna's earlier life. How she got started etc. I enjoyed this book enough to give it five stars and I think it's worth a credit. I like the way Jodi works and handle problems. She's not super woman doing things unbelievable. And she's not soft afraid or scared. She's very good at her job and very believable. I highly recommend trying this if you like wildlife style mysteries with good believable storylines. I hope this series continues. I think Joanne Delane did an excellent job narrating this book. Made me homesick

I’m a native New Mexican now living in Mississippi. The story, settings, characters, and scenery came alive and read like I was watching it happen- the narrator, Joanna Delane, is wonderful - the lilting accents and teenage attitudes - made for a very enjoyable read. Made me very homesick - Can’t wait for Alisa Lynn Valdes to give us another adventure!

Good book. Recommended.

Jodi needs to be waaay more strict with her daughter. She let her off easy for firing the gun when Jodi told her not to. Not to mention how rude Mila is to her, and Jodi lets her get away with it. That was frustrating me.

Narrator was awful

Narrator would be more suited to read to a class room full of students rather than an adult’s book. Otherwise the story was great

Such a disappointment

I liked her first book and was looking forward to this one. Story OK, not great. Toward the end of the book a bunch of Catholic religious s**t. I will not buy another book by this author.

Narration is terrible

The lady who narrates this Catholic thriller is pretty terrible with the Spanish language. At times I had no idea what she was trying to say and pronounce and I know Spanish.
But yeah it got weirdly religious at the end.
