“Narrator Adam Lazarre-White masterfully voices a wide range of characters. Listeners will be captivated by the layered storytelling, morally complex characters, and the powerful interpretation of a narrative steeped in pain, violence, and family loyalty.”—AudioFile

Award-winning, New York Times bestselling author S. A. Cosby returns with King of Ashes, a Godfather-inspired Southern crime epic and dazzling family drama.

When eldest son Roman Carruthers is summoned home after his father’s car accident, he finds his younger brother, Dante, in debt to dangerous criminals and his sister, Neveah, exhausted from holding the family—and the family business—together. Neveah and their father, who run the Carruthers Crematorium in the run-down central Virginia town of Jefferson Run, see death up close every day. But mortality draws even closer when it becomes clear that the crash that landed their father in a coma was no accident and Dante’s recklessness has placed them all in real danger.

Roman, a financial whiz with a head for numbers and a talent for making his clients rich, has some money to help buy his brother out of trouble. But in his work with wannabe tough guys, he’s forgotten that there are real gangsters out there. As his bargaining chips go up in smoke, Roman realizes that he has only one thing left to offer to save his brother: himself, and his own particular set of skills.

Roman begins his work for the criminals while Neveah tries to uncover the long-ago mystery of what happened to their mother, who disappeared when they were teenagers. But Roman is far less of a pushover than the gangsters realize. He is willing to do anything to save his family. Anything.

Because everything burns.

S.A. Cosby has done it again! King of Ashes is yet another exciting addition to his collection of works. As a huge fan of Cosby’s work, I came into this one with high expectations, and he did not disappoint.

The story drew me in from the beginning and continued to keep my interest throughout the book. The pacing, the characters, the twists and the wild events all contribute to tell an amazing story. And the outstanding duo of the author with Adam Lazarre-White as the audiobook narrator is ALWAYS a must for my immersive reading! If Cosby writes it and Lazarre-White narrates it, it’s an instant must-listen/read.

If you’re a fan of Cosby’s signature blend of crime, conscience, and chaos, you won’t be disappointed. This is easily a 5-star read.

A must-read!!!

S.A. Cosby has quickly become one of my favorite authors and King of Ashes was another hit. The story line was more graphic and had alot of brutal scenes than his other books, but a good story none the less. The story line pulled me in and left me with my jaw dropping a few times.

Good story, great narrator. Just a great characterization of trauma and how it twists even the highest functioning human

Cosby’s writing takes you away and immerses you into the world he creates. I am so incredibly invested in these people… from the main characters to the extras! Don’t even get me started on Adam’s narration prowess… don’t. I’m listening again as we speak.

Exquisite! (per usual)

Dante’s constant whining. Because of the whining, he appears to be in his early 20s.

The family dynamic love with absolutely no trust!

I like how this book had twists and turns that you don’t see coming. Not an empty fluff, as the story unwinds, you become more invested. Great ending. Narration was top notch.
