About this listen

The National Book Award finalist from acclaimed New York Times best-selling author Francine Prose - now the major motion picture Submission.

It's been years since Swenson, a professor in a New England creative-writing program, has published a novel. It's been even longer since any of his students have shown promise. Enter Angela Argo, a pierced, tattooed student with a rare talent for writing. Angela is just the thing Swenson needs. Better yet, she wants his help. But, as we all know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions....

Deliciously risque, Blue Angel is a withering take on today's academic mores and a scathing tale that vividly shows what can happen when academic politics collide with political correctness.

Critic reviews

“Screamingly funny.... Blue Angel culminates in a sexual harassment hearing that rivals the Salem witch trials.” (USA Today)

Creepy Academia

I did not enjoy this book. Written in first person, I did not like or care for the protagonist. Prose's writing is always exquisite but there was nothing redeeming in this story.

Blue devil

She writes mysteriously but poetic , beautiful narration , not a book for everyone but for those that love Kafka it will endure .

at times hilarious; at times brilliant; often painful to listen to because I was so caught up in Sweson’s descent. it was like watching the fly land on Venus fly trap and watching its slow, excruciating envelopement. Bedtime the book was too painful and I had to put it down. On the whole, after taking in the whole story until the end, I’d have to give it a five out of five. There was no way to figure out the plot – certainly not the ending. This is a well written, disturbing novel that was brilliantly written and designed. kudos to the author. However, I don’t think I’ll be seeking out her next novel for a while. This was just too disturbing.

Story gets lost.

The orator is so monotone the story, if there is one gets lost. Sad because the description sounded interesting.
