About this listen

A valuable vintage crossbow is the instrument of murder, but is it also the reason for murder?

Kathleen and Andrea encounter greed, envy, and rage as possible motives when they help Sheriff Ward Sterling investigate the death of one of their relatives. When their prime suspect is shot, they must decide whether he was targeted because he killed their cousin or because he knew who did. When the sisters’ lives are threatened, they know they’re getting close to finding the killer and hoping they can succeed before they become targets.

Still a great, clean series!

Helen Haught-Fanick has shown that you CAN write a nice, clean and highly entertaining mystery in this day and age. As far as I know, this is the last book in the series right now but it ends with the suggestion of another book about a cold case they want to solve. So I hope she continues with another. If she does, I will be sure to listen to it, as well. I am thinking I should listen to other books she has written! Hopefully I get to listen! Great series of books!!!

4/5 Stars Cozy Mystery

Moon Mystery Series book 6

Narrated by Sharon Huff

Run Time: 5 hrs and 28 min

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Summary:

Kathleen and Andrea (amateur detective sisters) go to a quaint town for a cozy family reunion to get a look at a famous crossbow. And run headlong into a mystery. I’m guessing since this is book 6 in the series it’s another mystery.

Additional Comments:

· It’s first person from Kathleen’s point of view. The characters are notable because they’re older, though I do find that cozies run either 20’s and hot and hapless or 65+ and grandmotherly.

· Random comment: I’m not sure anybody bothers with the old cut out newspaper/magazine letter threats. Who’s got the time for that junk? Criminals are busy people too.

· It’s a typical cozy.

· They don’t have a cat. I feel like they need a cat. I think they mentioned a dog that’s with a sitter or something. Doesn’t count. They need a cat. It’s like in the cozy mystery how-to book.

· The tie-in to the title seems a bit of a stretch.

· Cover is very pretty but doesn’t channel cozy to me, maybe suspense. I wouldn’t say this qualifies as suspense.

· The detective work is mostly them asking nosy questions and searching without a warrant because they can.

· Performance was fine. The narrator fit the character well enough and you could tell if a make character was speaking.

Conclusion:

If you’re in the mood for a cozy starring older ladies, this is right on target.

Family Crimes

Blue Moon, Black Heart is Book 6 in the Blue Moon Series by Helen Haught Fanick. Kathleen and Andrea visit their relatives with all of the family dynamics. When the family's famous crossbow is used as a murder weapon, Kathleen and Andrea are hot on the case! I believe that Kathleen and Andrea are great main characters and they are definitely sleuths. The story was interesting and Sharon Huff was excellent as the narrator. I am looking forward to Book 7/

Another stellar book!

How sweet it was to read a book that mentions Cathedral State park in Aurora West Virginia. the home of the school where I began my teaching career and where I met many lifelong friends. it is a beautiful area. ok back to the story. this book explored many must see scenic areas. the plot was well thought out and planned. the characters are likable and if real would be people I'd like to know. it is well written and read. job well done thank you!

A Family reunion leads to death

I enjoy visiting the Caanen Valley with Kathleen & her sister Andrea as they attend a family reunion where many members did not know they were related until the invitation.

The story had plenty of twist and turns and really no gore. I enjoy the way the sisters go about tracing down clues to give to the police.

Wonderful cozy book and series!

Blue Moon, Black Heart is #6 in the Moon Mysteries. series by Helen Haught Fanick. Retired Andrea and Kathleen are heading to a Lancaster family reunion. The highlight of the reunion is to see the famous cross-bow belonging to a mutual ancestor in Robin Hood’s Band of Merry Men. Unfortunately one of the cousins gets murdered with the cross-bow. Now Andrea and Kathleen are on the case to help their friend Sheriff Ward Sterling solve the crime and other mysteries! Great story with very relatable and likable characters. The narration by Sharon Huff was wonderful. She created unique voices for the characters and brought the story to life. I received a copy of the audiobook from the author for an unbiased review.
