Publisher's summary

After three years working as a private investigator, newly reinstated Detective Inspector Will Foster still holds himself responsible for the death of an officer under his command. But he's returned to the Met bent on redeeming himself and that means bringing down gangland boss Joey Clarkson.

Will's prepared to put in long hours and make sacrifices for his work, even if it comes at a cost to his nascent romance with international model, Tom Gray. After all, Tom has a history of wandering but crime is a constant in London. And Will has committed himself to the Met.

But when a murder in a Soho walkup leads Will into the world of corruption, he finds himself forced to investigate his own friends and colleagues. Now the place he turned for redemption seems to be built upon lies and betrayal. And someone is more than willing to resort to murder to keep it that way.

Contains mature themes.

I couldn’t “ put it down”

All three books, though linked, stand alone. Total immersion with the excellent writing and narration. 3 of my favorite audiobooks.

suspenseful & emotionally intense! loved it!

This series got better and better with each book. Blue on Blue was so suspenseful and intense. It was fraught with tension, had all the feels and all the angst, and I loved it.

The narrator Gary Furlong totally inhabited the characters he gave voice to. His narration communicated Will’s emotions so convincingly I couldn’t help but cry at times.

This novel, like the previous books in the series, was deftly plotted, and all the plot twists made sense, although it was easier to guess this time around who was the real “villain.” I really liked how the villains were complex characters, and the heroes were flawed characters.

This book is a direct sequel to Object of Desire, which told Will and Tom’s love story from Tom’s perspective. In this book, their story is told from Will’s perspective. It was so interesting to learn what Will hadn’t said and what he had been hiding from Tom.

Though Will didn’t show it, his feelings for Tom were incredibly intense, and I completely sympathized with what he was going through in both his relationship and his job. Will went through so much stress not knowing which of his colleagues he could trust.

So, I really loved how Will and Jamie became cop buddies. I also loved how Ben got some closure, how Will and Tom figured things out, and how their relationship developed.

Will and Tom were such a passionate couple. The sex scenes were amazing, smoking hot, and emotionally intense, with a touch of tenderness and vulnerability. In a word, glorious.

This book was so damn good & unforgettable. I look forward to Dal Maclean’s future books.

A great escape

A welcome flight of fancy on every drive to work. These books got better and better and Gary Furlong is an exceptional voice actor. I’ll be searching for more from Dal.

Amazing 🥰😍🔥🔥

This series was fantastic, made astonishing by Gary Furlong’s narration. I have been stalking him in Audible, listening to everything he has narrated. I absolutely love his Will voice, it’s the deepest, sexiest voice I’ve heard so far and I fell in love with the voice and Will’s character in general. Both Will and James were so vulnerable, and loved Ben and Tom so much, that when they were wronged, I felt like it was happening to me. I wish there were more books with these 4, or more books by Dal MacLean (of course with narration by Gary Furlong)in general. I’ll keep an eye out for more in the future.

Exciting and painful but worth it

Audiobook version was amazing - the different accents and inflections were superb!
I read a review that said this was not a book for the faint of heart - agreed. The story gets very visceral and forces us readers to think able it the fact that these things actually happen in real life around us.
The story was exciting and heart-wrenching at times, but worth it in the end.
I'll definitely be looking at more by this author!

Not a stand alone book - part of a series

This book - a good, well written story with a good narrator is evidently part of a series. Check out Dal Maclean's other offerings on audible first.

No communication but awesome mystery

Ok first let me say Gary furlong is the best narrator to ever read for Audible. THE VERY BEST!!!! Especially with m/m gay romance and police procedure genre. Now about this book let me say that dal Maclean is awesome. What a writer. Now again this book I have advice for Tom and will. It’s one word…….”COMUNICATION”. However there wouldn’t have been angst in this story if there had been communication. But I got so frustrated I wanted to smack both of them in the head to say “just talk to each other and tell each other how much you loved one another !” Anyway I love the author and narrator. When will Dal come out with a new book? I can’t wait!!!!!

And now I have Book hangover...

Wow! What a culmination to this amazing series! Intelligently written, nuanced, superb plot. Characters have so many shades. Will is a hero like in all the classical detective stories - the strong, capable and handsome detective, returned to the police to fight crime. It's a wonder how a 30-year old police detective can still believe that the world is divided into "good guys" and "bad guys", and that he knows which is which. But he is forced to lose his innocence - his convictions about the world are inexorably demolished, chapter by chapter, to reveal lies, infuriating smugness, manipulation, and so much ugliness.
It's not the obvious villains that are the worst (all the villains from the two previous books make a comeback, and Eve Kelly is more fascinating and hair-raising than ever! And, strangely, she's with the good guys here. Almost.)
Everything is spiralling down the drain for poor Will - last, but not least, his love life. But he and his brother-in-arms James go to war like two knights of old and he finally gets his boy back (although the boy actually never left - the phrase "idiots in love" says it all - and the boy rescues himself, again, and he rescues the valiant hero, again, in an ironic reversal of roles).
It doesn't matter in the end who rescued whom, the hero has his boy beside him, and everything is right with the world. Not all the bad guys are vanquished - food for a 4th book in the series? or maybe Will and James are just human heroes and not superheroes, "and that's life". Thank you, Dal Maclean, for this fabulous story!
