About this listen

Everything old is new again in love and murder.

Work together, live together, and play together is the name of the game for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key. But one of those things changes when Chief Mendoza taps Sawyer to lead the newly formed cold case unit. His first task: solve the Magnolia Murders that spanned three decades and suddenly stopped in 2000.

Chaos ensues when a fourth Magnolia Queen contender is murdered during a preliminary round. With the pageant's one hundredth anniversary looming, the pressure is on to produce results. Royce and Sawyer, along with their new partners, have to team up to solve the Magnolia Murders—old and new.

As the investigation continues, a surprise visitor and an unexpected phone call force the men to face painful things from their pasts. The future Royce and Sawyer dream of is within their grasp, but first, they'll need to uproot the seeds of discontent they've buried deep.

Contains mature themes.

Never a dull moment

I loved the book, but it really came to life with the narration by Tristan James. Bravo.

Knew beauty Pageants were Evil!

Loved...everything about this. Sawyer and Royce are the best and the premise for this story, evolving with the characters was excellent.

Disappointed

Really, really wanted to love this, but it was slow and plodding. For once, I wanted less sex, more plot. Tristan James was great as always.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: Good pace and interesting story.
I'm probably bias, it took me a while to warm up to these characters in the Ground Zero series, but now I'm a fan. There's probably a little too much "se*y time", in this one for me (I'm at an age where I prefer more story), but the characters are being given the opportunity to grow both individually and as a couple and I'm enjoying the direction the series is taking - bring on more chaos!

🎧 Narrator comment: Tristan James can be a narrator you either enjoy or don't. Personally I love him, I go through phases where he's just what I need in a narrator. I find his tones soothing, he has good timing and inflections and he brings these characters to life. I enjoyed his performance of this title and will happily listen to it again.

Good story. Good narration.

I enjoyed the first trilogy about Sawyer and Royce, the Sinister in Savannah series was entertaining, and so far, the Matrimony and Mayhem series is my favorite of the books set in Savannah. Royce and Sawyer's relationship continues to evolve along with their personalities. The cases Royce and Sawyer are tasked with solving have some interesting twists. The expanding cast of characters is also interesting, and I enjoyed getting to know them.

I liked the pacing and rhythm of this story which made the book a particularly enjoyable audiobook. Tristan James' voice is pleasant, and aside from a few word pronunciations I didn't expect, I found his performance entertaining.

More romance than mystery

I enjoyed the portion of this book that actually dealt with the mystery, but that was over shadowed by the sexual content. I also felt the narrative was stiff.
