About this listen

In Body of Evidence, a sexy, romantic, political thriller, an archaeologist and a US Attorney find themselves on an explosive, globe-spanning chase full of political intrigue and legal drama. Body of Evidence is the second book in Grant's Evidence Series, where archaeology, politics, and war collide. And she thought facing a firing squad was bad...When archaeologist Mara Garrett traveled to North Korea to retrieve the remains of GIs lost in combat, she never imagined she'd be arrested, convicted of spying, and sentenced to death. Her only hope is Curt Dominick, the powerful, ambitious, and infuriatingly sexy US attorney prosecuting her uncle, a former vice president of the United States.

What starts off as a rescue mission quickly morphs into a race across the Pacific. Someone is after Mara, and they'll risk everything to stop her from reaching Washington, D.C. With betrayal around every corner, Curt and Mara have little reason to trust each other, and every reason to deny the sparks between them that blaze hotter than the Hawaiian sun. Still, desire clashes with loyalty when they discover a conspiracy that threatens not only their lives, but the national security of the United States.

No Disappointment

So Ms. Rachel Grant does not disappoint. I absolutely love the books from this author. Her books are relevant, her characters believable and her storyline is excellent. I love the depth and integrity she adds to her books. Well done. The narration was also excellent.

Body

This is the second book in the series & both heroes are complete jerks. The hero of this book slightly less so, but not by much. Why would the women fall in love with them? Chemistry only explains so much.

Outstanding Romantic Suspense

I loved Body of Evidence when I read it last year and just listened to the recently released audiobook. I'm going to purchase the entire series because Whispersync pricing at Audible is impossible to resist and these books are among the best romantic suspense out there.

That said, I have a few issues with new-to-me narrator Nicole Zanzaraella. Grant's heroines are all scientists -- super smart and professionally accomplished -- a huge selling point. To my ear narrator Zanzaraella missed heroine's characterization by just thismuch. It was jarring to hear a sultry, kittenish voice when I was not expecting it. Not to say that a smart, professional scientist can't be sultry and sexy but it was just thismuch off. Zanzarelli doesn't do character voices -- everyone sounds the same -- so that pouty voice thing was a scene killer.

Still, I've bought the entire series in audio because the writing is that good and the pricing is irresistible.

Excellent Novel

Rachel Grant has done an exceptional job on this series so far. The characters are so real and the plot well done. My interest was caught from the very first page to the lady.

Fantastic Romantic Suspense

I was curious at the premise of a American being convicted for crimes in North Korea. I assumed that it would have political intrigue, drama and suspense. This book delivers - in spades. It is a wonderful balance of tight, tension-filled action and hot romance.

The story: The former Vice President is in a lot of trouble. He has been indicted for influence peddling and is being prosecuted by the star of the US Attorney General's office, Curt Dominik. Curt Dominik is also the special envoy sent to North Korea at the request of the government to pick up Dr. Mara Garrett after being accused of being a spy. Dr. Garrett also happens to be the favorite niece of said VP.

On the surface it is a seemingly simple exchange, but things get crazy when murders happen, a plane blows up, and people are betrayed. We have Rapture, a notorious private security contractor, involved and things get more and more complicated. The events keep the readers on their toes and left wondering, "what's next?"

The narrator does a fine job keeping the pace fast and tension high.

If you are an RS fan, you will not be disappointed by this audio book.

The Audible helped make this book even more intens

This review is for both the ebook as well as the Audible.

If anything, this book not only surpasses the first book in this 12 book series, but it is even more complex. And I really, really loved it.

This book starts out slow with the lead female character, Archaeologist Mara Garrett, imprisoned in North Korea for spying. After her unsurprising conviction, she is to be executed by firing squad in twenty-four hours unless an Special Envoy selected by NK arrives before her execution, in which case she will be released. Like I said, sarcastically, slow.

Turns out Mara is the niece of the former Vice President who is going on trial for using his influence to help Raptor, the private security firm he joined after he left office, to get IS government contracts. And the Special Envoy selected is none other than US Attorney Curt Dominick, who is prosecuting Uncle Andrew. Plenty of time to fly to NK and back to DC before the trial begins in a few days.

Mara was in NK because she is employed by Joint POW-MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) to excavate and retrieve the remains of American service men and women that were killed or missing in action during prior foreign wars. Due to an very intense and complicated subplot, Mara was framed for spying. The rest of the book involves Mara and Curt trying to get back to DC while at the same time avoiding getting murdered and figure out what is going on.

Again, like I said earlier, more complex than the first book and much more enthralling. I highly recommend this book and Audible as well as the entire series of 12 books. Especially the books I have already read, books 1 through 5.

Now, on to review book 3.

Great sex and a page turner mystery

More romance and sex than I expected. Mostly integrated with the plot, but could have been two separate books. Really liked both of them.
