About this listen

Bond Trilogy Book 1: Isabella

Christian Historical Romance Novella with a bit of mystery

Setting: Newbury, Berkshire England in the early 19th-century

Beautiful, willful Isabella Martin is being raised as a lady by her doting parents at their bustling inn, "The Jolly George". Life is full of learning lady-like accomplishments for her and her cousin Caroline. After an embarrassing family loss, security is more important to her than love, and she aspires to marry up out of her social class.

Will her dreams come true as she seeks to socially climb, or will she die a slow, ghastly death at the hands of an adversary just when her life began to have new meaning?

This promising author has definite talent! This book makes for a good, short read. I absolutely loved the mystery/suspense aspect of the story! But, overall it just wasn't my cup of tea. The writing was good, though it was at times a bit hard to follow, and in places there was a bit too much telling. I really enjoy audiobooks, but I'm sorry to say that I didn't care for how this narrator read the story. I felt that the emotion in the narrator's voice as well as her tone didn't ever vary, no matter the tone of the scene or what was being said. I also felt that the narration style made the characters seem quite immature. Perhaps, I would have enjoyed the story more in its written form rather than the audio edition. I recommend this book if you are looking for a good, quick Regency read, and I look forward to trying more of this author's work in the future.

I received an audiobook copy of this book from the author, which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

A Good, Short Read!

The book featuring Isabella was engaging and entertaining. The descriptions of the characters lives along with how they interacted with each other went well together. The reader‘s accent and interpretation made me feel like I was watching a period piece on PBS. This was also a very good set up for the next two books in the trilogy. It left me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

This is a very engaging book to read
