About this listen

Florrie Buckley is an orphan living on the wind-blasted moors of Cornwall. It's a hard existence, but Florrie is content; she runs wild in the mysterious landscape. She thinks her destiny is set in stone.

But when Florrie is 14, she inherits a never-imagined secret. She is related to a wealthy and notorious London family: the Graces.

Overnight Florrie's life changes, and she moves from country to city, from poverty to wealth. Cut off from everyone she has ever known, Florrie struggles to adapt while learning the rules of a strange new world. And then she must try to fathom her destructive pull towards the enigmatic and troubled Turlington Grace, a man with many dark secrets of his own.

Enjoyed it

At points this book, like the author’s book Amy Snow, degenerated into a tawdry romance. I struggled through and ended up really enjoying the book. Lovely interplay of the classes in England.

I loved the narrators nimble switching between accents. Very fun.

Enjoyable Enough

I did enjoy it well enough, I suppose. It has the elements of a very interesting story, but I feel it was overlong in the telling. Tracy Rees has a nice way of putting a story together and It ended nicely enough.

Tries hard, but...

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, too juvenille

If you’ve listened to books by Tracy Rees before, how does this one compare?

N/A

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

It was not offensive, but not great. Many of the male voices sounded alike or like bad imitations.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Absolutely!

Florence Grace satisfied my love of reading in everyway. The plot and characters were rich and satisfying. Best of all, it ended well, with a sense of everything is as it should be. Not the hum drum, predictable syrupy ending, but one of wonderful opportunities.

Excellent Adventure

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I plan on gifting this to friends. It is a wonderful example of exploring life's challenges and how to allow yourself to grow and trust your inner voices

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I would like to hear it all at once but it takes some of the subtle inferences out if you don't stop and consider the situations.

Any additional comments?

I rarely keep books. This one is a keeper.

Sweeping & colorful

Thoroughly enjoyed and narrator Imogene Church was perfect. I gave story only 4 stars because I had hoped, for a listen this long, there might have been more plot twists or perhaps some intrigued, but the story held me until the rather lackluster ending regardless. I plan to order another Tracy Rees book. I enjoy her characters, her descriptions of period decorum, and her insights into life and love.
