About this listen

Please note - this book is written using UK English

Taz I’Ane - arrogant, irreverent, womanising - Heir Apparent to the House of Nikaris, the largest and most powerful house in the Vampire Nation.

Morganna Satori, top of the chain of the world’s deadliest and most feared assassins - as lethal as she is beautiful.

Two people who couldn’t be more opposite. And whose only connection to one-another is a torrid one night’s stand in Las Vegas, six months past.

Now they have been thrown together to investigate a string of grisly murders, perpetrated by what appears to be a homicidal mad man in control of a savage army of children.

The question is not whether or not they can survive their seemingly impossible assignment. But whether they will survive each other.

Taz and Morgan’s story

I love vampire novels! This one does not disappoint. As usual read it on kindle first then listened to it on audio. Mike does an excellent job narrating it. Brought Taz and Morgan to life. And as with the other series I found I looked at a few scenes differently thanks to the emotion and narration. Highly recommend this book and it in Audio as well.

A Fun Ride

I enjoyed this exciting, brief, glimpse into the lives of Morgan and Taz. It was an interesting take on relationships between vampires, humans, and Necunos. I’m invested in the lives of Morgan and Taz now and I want to know the rest of their story.

Interesting start

Overall this was a good listen. The narrator wasn’t my favorite but also didn’t detract from the story. It was a very enjoyable story with some creepy parts. I loved getting to know Taz and Morgan and am now very curious to find out what’s will happen next. The characters are really good and kept me listening to find out what they wouldn’t do next. I want to find out what happens in the next book.

I think it needs a new narrator

if the narrator was more enthusiastic and like the more top narrators then it would have been great. The story was good but because of this I could not get into the story:(

Needs a new narrator

At first I struggled to get into this book because the narrator had a bland mechanical voice and there were times when he would nearly run out of air or you could hear him needing to take a deep breath. I almost stopped listening but he ended up finding his stride and before I knew it I was captivated. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the character arcs. There were times when the narrator would slowly become a bit mechanical again and I would zone out, even after making multiple attempts to listen to the same part, but he would recover and I would become interested again. I found myself unwilling to reach the end and when I did reach it I was sad to be done. This world is quite interesting and these characters are extremely flawed but I still rooted for them.

Love The Story!

I got to listen to this at the courtesy of the author in exchange for a review.

I don’t like this narrator. I really want to. I wish I did! But I don’t. He just isn’t a performer. He puts in a good effort, but it’s almost as though he lacks confidence in his ability to differentiate voices, so he doesn’t try very hard.

That wouldn’t be a big deal, necessarily, except that the story is viewed from two different PoVs, and there is a certain amount of fluidity between them. Whereas in other books where you would have a full chapter from one character’s PoV and the next chapter as another’s, both characters can share their PoV within in the same chapter. In text that’s no big deal because there would normally be some kind of break at the switch, but in audio... it can get confusing. It’s not like there are no indications, I mean pronouns are pretty clear, but there is not really any change in the voice of the narration, which makes the two sound the same.

I don’t mind listening to him, he has a nice enough voice, and he tells the story with energy, but in terms of performance is falls flat, and can become distracting.

Okay, now that’s out of the way: I loved the story. It was super creepy (child vampires, hello), and sexy, and generally entertaining. I really liked Taz, he’s an ass, but really, underneath, a good guy. Morgan is a freaking badass, but is closed off... you can see where this going right? I love it! I love characters that compliment each other and draw out one another’s better qualities. Morgan brings out the more tender, less ass-like qualities of Taz, and he forces her to break down some of the walls that keep her from actually living.

The story is complex and intriguing. The relationships between the factions of characters is interesting and really kept me engaged with a measure of originality I enjoyed.

And creepy... and a little gory in places. Ohmygoodness, vampire kids, that are legit crazy. Super creepy. If this were a movie,
I wouldn’t be able to handle it, but as a book I can cope lol

Anyway, I loved the book (I will read it with my own eyes in the near future to pick up what I may have missed), but not so much the narration. I’m looking forward to book two, though!

:)

overall the story seems okay I just could not get into it with the narrator. It just seems so bland in his voice and blah.
