About this listen

At a benefit dinner, community activist Maria Cervantes overhears two men plotting a terrorist attack that could rock Miami to its core. But before she can alert authorities, she's almost killed in a massive explosion - and wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened. As the sole survivor of the attack, she is now a person of interest to the NSA - and especially to Agent Cade O'Reilly. Because Maria is the one woman Cade has never been able to forget.

Years ago, they were closer than either was willing to admit - until Cade disappeared when Maria needed him most. Now he's sticking by her, whether she likes it or not. Because the memories locked inside her mind could hold vital clues to the next attack. Because terrorists want her dead - and because he never wants to let her go again.

Contains mature themes.

REVIEW:
As I read over my original review of Bound to Danger (below) I find that I loved this book just as much the second time around as I did the first time. But this go around I listened on audio. Sophie Eastlake does a good job of bringing Ms. Reus’ characters to life. My only complaint is that at time the male voice sound a little stuffy. But other than that, I enjoyed the non-stop action of this story.

Original review: Eight years is a long time to stay away from the one you love. But that is what Cade O’Reilly did and he had his reasons. But when Maira’s name come acrossed the board as needing protection he know that he was the only one that could do it. He will do anything for Maira, except let her go this time. This time he plans to stay, but will Maira want him to after she learns of his secrets?

Bound to Danger is the second book in Katie Reus’ news Deadly Ops series. Bound to Danger is every bit as good as Targeted (bk 1). From page one there is not stop action. And even in the middle of a life and death situation Katie is able to let our hero & heroine have a great love story.

It Can Happen Here

Miami is under siege. A deadly terrorist attack at a palatial mansion has left only one survivor. Maria Cervantes doesn't remember what happened and why she was found outside. When Cade O'Reilly learned what happened, he asked to be assigned to protect her. He was her brother's best friend and has loved her for years. What happens next is a heart stopping adventure written as only Katie Reus can. The chemistry between Maria and Cade is very sensual. Their passion takes a backseat to their determination to track down those responsible for this atrocity. Will they get a second chance to find love together? The suspense is non-stop and has many twists and turns that had me completely hooked. The glamorous setting added to the tense atmosphere as does the powerful dialogue. Jack Stone is familiar from the first Deadly Ops book, Targeted. I love that Katie Reus combines a passionate romance with a tense action filled thriller. The story is so powerful and the plot so possible that the story took my breath away. The narration by Sophie Eastlake adds to the tension. I find that audiobooks increase my enjoyment. Bound to Danger made me realize that such carnage can happen here.

Explosive from Beginning to End

This book kept you on the edge of your seat from the first minute to the last. Sophie Eastlake did an amazing job with the narration and lent her talent to a fast-paced and adventurous story.
I wondered if Maria Cervantes was going to have to use her nine lives (if she had them) when the story began, but once Agent Cade O'Reilly stepped on the scene I breathed a little easier. Just a little. One threat after another built up my anxiety until I felt like yelling "Watch out!" to the characters.
Meanwhile the relationship between Maria and Cade heated up to a degrees that rivaled some of the explosions, but threatened to be dowsed in ice by a secret Cade carried with him.
Adventure, suspense, romance, a damsel in distress and an alpha male that will do anything for her. These were all ingredients that made up a recipe for genius story telling. I really enjoyed this book.

Super sexy and action-packed!

Where does Bound to Danger rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I loved the book and thoroughly enjoyed Bound to Danger on audio. This is certainly in my Top 5 audiobooks and the narrator performance was superb!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bound to Danger?

So many great action scenes to get wrapped up in. And, the incredibly tender moments between Cade and Maria, especially as seen through their written correspondence flashbacks.

Action Pack Story

Would you listen to Bound to Danger again? Why?

Yeah, because the story is awesome and Sophie does a fantastic job.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cade. Throughout the story he kept a level head, but there are times he slipped up due to Maria.

What does Sophie Eastlake bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I read the book before listening to Sophie narrate. I think the story comes to life and is so much better listening.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could I totally would listen to this story in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

The combination of Katie's writing and Sophie's ability to bring the story to life is amazing.

A good read..

Any additional comments?

This started out pretty exciting, with a huge explosion at a party and everyone dead except Maria, who has a touch of amnesia. And then Cade coming back into her life after 8 years. And, yet again, a hero who doesn’t think he’s good enough for her AND she was his best friend’s little sister. This storyline is getting pretty old. But, since it has terrorists and such hopefully it won’t dwell too much on who’s good enough and who’s not.

So, Maria had her TSTL moment and got herself caught by the terrorists. I don’t know why authors have to write their heroines that way. Every time that happens I just hope that she gets killed for doing something so incredibly stupid. Wow! She felt the need to go save her friend when she could have called Cade, who was part of the Black Death 9 Squad.

I liked the secondary characters, Burkhart and Nash and Leah, and Oto and Mihails were really terrific bad guys.

There was a lot of sexual tension in this book and KR does know how to write some good sex scenes.

I will read Levi’s story because I want to see him get his revenge, but I hope the new woman in his life doesn’t have a TSTL moment.

Because it makes me crazy that every single romance has one thing in common, from now on, I’m going to mention the heroine biting her lip. Worrying her lip. Chewing at her lip or nibbling at her lip, or doing whatever to her lip. Wow! No one bit their lip. Well, unless you count him nibbling at her lip. LOL..

As to the narrator: Ms. Eastlake does a pretty good job. She can sound raspy or yell but that's about all. When the book calls for a laugh or cry or a grumpy tone she reads it all the same. I would like to have her show more emotion.

Great Second Story in Series.

Bound to Danger is the second book in the Deadly Ops Series by Katie Reus. This book followed the premise of the first one in that a solider, who has nothing to lose, is offered the opportunity to work for a top secret part of the NSA – the catch – they need to give up their old life. In a perfect world, that would work, however it seems that their old lives have a way of colliding with their new employment. Six years ago, Cade O’Reilly was a marine with pretty much nothing to lose – he was at the top of his game, he was preforming top secret missions for the CIA and at his peak. His record singles him out as someone who would be an asset to the Black Ops team operated by the NSA. Since Cade has no family, he can keep his name and his past (unlike the others in the Unit), if he decides to work for the NSA. Maria Cervantes is a part of Cade’s past. Maria overhears a terrorist plot but before she can inform anyone, she witnesses an explosion, which causes her to have amnesia. Enter Cade. Cade knew Maria when he and her brother were in the same marine unit. Cade and Maria’s brother were best friends. After Maria’s brother dies Cade cuts her out of his life as feels responsible for her brother’s death. After the explosion, Cade shows up, in Maria’s hospital’s room to ask her questions about the incident, as many influential people were killed. Maria, of course, is angry and hurt. She has not heard from Cade in eight years (since her brother died) and he shows up asking her questions on the day her mother is killed in the explosion. Cade and Maria have a lot of history to get through. The character interaction is great. The suspense keeps you on the edge. The plot is well developed and believable. Will Maria remember? Will Cade and Maria find their way to each other? Can Cade protect Maria from the terrorists? Are they the only ones with an agenda or are there others? There was some heat to the book but it was not over the top. I would recommend this book and give a sold 4 and ½ stars. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a lot of action and suspense with romance thrown in. The audio version of this book was narrated by Sophie Eastlake. Once again, Ms. Eastlake does not disappoint in her vocalization of the characters in the book. She seems to breathe life into this emotions and interactions and makes you feel like you are privy to the conversation going on. There were no real noticeable errors or pauses in the recording. I listened to this audio book over several gym visits and it seemed to make the time go by much quicker.
