About this listen

Between the ages of 12 and 24, the brain changes in important and often maddening ways. It’s no wonder that many parents approach their child’s adolescence with fear and trepidation. According to renowned neuropsychiatrist Daniel Siegel, however, if parents and teens can work together to form a deeper understanding of the brain science behind all the tumult, they will be able to turn conflict into connection and form a deeper understanding of one another.

In Brainstorm, Siegel illuminates how brain development affects teenagers’ behaviour and relationships. Drawing on important new research in the field of interpersonal neurobiology, he explores exciting ways in which understanding how the teenage brain functions can help parents make what is in fact an incredibly positive period of growth, change and experimentation in their children’s lives less lonely and distressing on both sides of the generational divide.

Great mindsight approach to teenage raising,but...

I am already familiar with Dr. Siegel's methodologies and tools, and I've enjoyed and benefited from them as I learnt from his previous books. It is for this reason that though I appreciate how in this book he applies them to specific situations in teenage upbringing, I found a bit tedious having to read about the tools and methods in detail for yet another volume. There certainly are very teenage-specific and helpful cases and recommendations, but these make up less than half the content of the book.

For newcomers to Dr. Siegel's book, all the information on Mindsight theory and techniques should be of great value, but for readers already familiar with them, there's a lot to skip, or at best to just revisit, and little new, teenage-specific, although I found this bits very insightful and valuable.

A most read book from Siegel

In my opinion, this is the masterpiece in which he merged the scientific part with the most human in a beautiful integration.
