Publisher's summary

To trust or not to trust, that is the question.

Nothing is quite as it should be when Lucene Jones finally arrives on Erde. The Peace-Keepers are forced into an uneasy alliance with the Vitruvians when they discover that the nomadic Royals may have skipped out on a deal. Namely, they failed to deliver the one natural born empath, born of two genetically modified Data Collectors, to a restless demon named Jasper Set.

To make matters worse, the Terrestrial Academy of Research and Awareness (TARA) is beginning to notice odd side effects from tampering with Mother Nature, making the Data Collectors seem potentially unfit to continue their research. How can they possibly save the human species when they can’t even save themselves, begging the question, has everyone gone insane?

Like a Warm Hug From a Loved One

Breach of Contract, written by Danielle Palli, is book 2 in The Data Collectors series, and I enjoyed the story about as much as I did in the first book. Most of the characters you'll meet in this story feel warm and genuine, and meeting them again was like meeting a bunch of old friends.

Much of the story involves the political wranglings of varied species trying to take over the galaxy. Then there's the other half with Lucene, Cepheus, Tanager, and a cast of supporting characters - supporting in multiple usages of the word - who are just trying to move on from the events in book one and start afresh on Erde.

Danielle weaves all of it together in such a way that it keeps you wanting to listen far past when you know you need to stop and go to bed. I know it certainly did for me a few times! The main cast feel like such wonderful people it'll have you wishing you knew them in real life.

One of the antagonists, a demon named Jasper Set, is fun to root against. His diabolical plans are never far from disrupting the idyllic lives of Lucene and her friends.

Narration again by Graham Mack was excellent, this time ably assisted by the author Danielle Pallli voicing the female characters which added an extra layer of enjoyment and depth to the story.

Ultimately, I can't wait for the final book of the trilogy. The setup for what comes next has me quite intrigued. By the end of this book, I was completely hooked.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I have not let this gift affect nor influence my opinions of this audiobook and have left an honest review.

A fun escape

This is not the typical genre I tend toward, but I quite enjoyed the first book so wanted to experience this one, too. I find that I consume some books better via reading and others via hearing. I think I would have benefitted from reading this one as I did the first (lots of details to keep up with) but I enjoyed the story and the reading, though some of the accents were hard to follow at times. Overall I appreciated the fun escape into another “world”, amidst a cast of quirky, endearing characters.
