About this listen

Over four years have passed, and still Matthew Doyle can't shake the guilt of turning his back on Ruby, the girl who saved his life. As much as he's tried to avoid returning home to Hanceville, Alabama, he must do so in order to complete his service with the Tennessee Valley Authority, helping to establish electricity throughout the county. But Ruby continues to haunt his dreams, and the only way to move on is to seek her out and make things right. Tracking Ruby down leads Matthew back to the Calhoun farm, a place full of memories best left buried. But what he finds there will change his life forever. A man is dead. And Ruby Graves stands accused of his murder. In his quest to prove Ruby's innocence and atone for his past, Matthew must stand against the most powerful influences in the county, including his own father. But doing so may cost him everything, even his faith in God. Can Matthew rebuild Ruby's broken trust in him and save her life in return? Or will the trials he faces leave him broken instead? Breaking Matthew is the sequel to Healing Ruby, a novel set in Depression-era Alabama that explores faith healing, family loyalty, and racial segregation.

Breaking Matthew: Healing Ruby, Volume 2

Breaking Matthew
: Jennifer H. Westall

After I received this book I saw there was a previous book. I read it in order to understand this one. I understand faith healing is a gift from God and it can't be used to elevate ones own glory. Ruby and Matthew were friends in the depression era. The trials and all they face in their lives make for a compelling story. I now need to read the third book to see where this goes.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. The switching between voices of Matt Godfrey , Andi Arndt keep the story flowing.

Love this audio book

This is the second book in the series. I loved the first book so I was excited to listen to the second. I love the audiobook version. The narrator for Ruby brings the character and book to life. This is a touching story about hope, faith, love, and perseverance. I would recommend this to those looking for a good Christian fiction work.

intrigue and mystery that will keep your attention

I enjoyed this book as a way to pass a pleasant rainy afternoon. The characters were well drawn, and when I can see them in my head. I know the book is a winner. Highly recommend for light, pleasant reading.

EXCELLENT BOOK WITH A GRIPPING ENDING

This book flowed right from the first of the series, Healing Ruby. You feel as though the characters are part of your circle of family or friends. The performance of both narrators made it as though I was watching a movie. Can't wait for the third book of the series.

Spellbinding novel-racial tensions in the South

This is the exciting second book in the Healing Ruby series.
This story is full of unexpected twists and turns. I literally had no inkling of what was ahead, even to the very last page.

Ruby. A young girl living in the days of the Great Depression, having the firm belief that Negroes should be treated equally with whites. This was very rare in Alabama in those days.

Because of her belief that all people should be treated equally, she faces much difficulty.

Matthew. Her friend. He’s back, and now he is determined to stick up for her, through even the darkest days.

I don’t want to give the story away, so will refrain from sharing more details.
I love the way the author has written this story, it is so very well written. The characters become friends. The setting and details are absolutely fantastic. If you like history, you will get wrapped up and swept away by this story!

I loved this book

This series just pushes you to examine yourself, and become closer to God. I can not wait until the 3 rd book comes on AUdible. I might just go back and listen again, and take notes so I have reminders on how to become more like Christ, I loved this book you will not make a bad choice choosing it. I have a similar thing in my life where the town officials worked against us, and I want revenge. I am trying to be more Like Ruby and give it to GOd. Thaniks Jennifer Westall for a great series. A book to entertain and teach,
