About this listen

Recently widowed Susanna Jenkins has decided to follow her family to the booming town of San Marcial, New Mexico, for a fresh start and to aid in her family's sudden change in fortune. They are tasked with managing her uncle's new Grand Hotel, and it takes all her patience to try to help her parents see the good of their circumstances and relinquish their sense of entitlement.

Owen Turner works as a boilermaker for the Santa Fe's train shops in San Marcial. He's immediately attracted to Susanna upon meeting her, but he hesitates to risk opening his heart again. Especially as painful memories are stirred up of his own late sibling when Susanna's brother is assigned to work under him.

When misguided choices put Susanna's family in an even more precarious situation, she needs someone to rely on. But if Owen can't face the past, he'll miss out on his greatest chance at love.

Wonderful story and narration

You can't go wrong with Tracie Peterson and Barbara McCulloh. I love that Tracie actually writes about the faith and failings of her characters. I've read some so-called Christian novels and other than mentioning God at the beginning or the end, the book is completely bereft of Jesus and the characters' relationship with Him.

Barbara is a captivating story teller. She's so natural when changing tones or emotions. She always speaks clearly and concisely, and at the right speed. I always look forward to listening to a book when she's the narrator.

The story was very good and kept you wondering what might happen next.

It was nice to have people becoming Christians in the story and how it changed their lives.

Good salvation message.

I had a difficult time listening to the narrator reading the book. I felt that her intonations were inaccurate at times.

Disappointing

I am an avid reader of Tracie Peterson‘s books. I believe I have almost all of them. But I don’t know in the recent past her books have just not been as exciting and interesting as they used to be. Disappointing.

constant preaching wasn't for me

the story was good. the narrator great. but I have my own religion and I am not interested in being trained by a storyteller. I love that this is clean and that the author is a Christian but for me this went far beyond an expression of one's own faith. and that is where I become disappointed. long passages of preaching and prayers became regular parts of the story as I got deeper into the novel. It was engaging so I hoped that we were finally finished after the fourth prayer and sermon but no. I feel like I fast forwarded as much if this book as I listened to. it's not one I will keep but it was an easy listen and well told story. but I don't think this author is for me.
