Publisher's summary

In the new Vintage Kitchen Mystery from the author of No Grater Danger, when the town's resident Scrooge is found dead, Jaymie says, "Bah humbug!" to murder....

Now that Thanksgiving's behind her, vintage cookware enthusiast Jaymie Leighton Müller is excitedly making plans for the upcoming Dickens Days festival - the town's month-long celebration leading up to Christmas. With a hot cider booth on the village green to warm the hearts and bodies of the townsfolk and a diorama featuring a scene from A Christmas Carol, things are shaping up for a festive season - until the town's local Scrooge is found murdered, a vintage pudding mould covering his cracked skull.

Nearly everyone had a reason to dislike Evan Nezer - either for his bullying ways or his obnoxious arrogance - but with his body being found in Jaymie's diorama, she'll have to figure out who hated him enough to see him dead. With many suspects and even more secrets coming to the surface as she investigates, Jaymie feels buried by a blizzard of clues. But with Dickens Days on hold until the police can nab the killer, she's determined to catch the culprit so the ghost of Evan Nezer doesn't cast a pall over the whole Christmas season.

Very entertaining

Good story with an interesting mystery. There were several twists and turns and a lot of reasons not to like the victim. The pacing is slow and it seems like the narrator was whispering. Overall it's an entertaining story.

ehhh

The narrator was too sultry and overdramatic. It was hard to take. I agree with the other review about the political agenda thrown in for no reason. The main character comes off as a nosey hypocrite.

Fun, Cozy Holiday Mystery

I've liked this series for a long time, and this installment was fun, as well. I didn't pick up on the politics as much as other listeners (which I guess is a good thing, because that is quick to turn me off . . . it must not have been as blatant as I've ran into in other books 😏). This is a modern day Scrooge story, complete with Dickens Days and a downtown market, which I enjoyed listening to, as the participants planned and built the cider booth. The party at Scrooge's house was ridiculous and odd . . . and any one of those guests could have gladly knocked the mean man off. I was happy that Dicken's Days went on as scheduled and that the mystery (murder) was solved.

The Story was Nice

I absolutely love Val. Heidi is awesome.
Bernie makes me smile. Jaymie gets on my nerves. I do like her.
But why didn't she tell the police Evan pushed Bill? Why when Ben was being mean to Bill-- didn't she say something? Do something?
When will there be a Halloween book?

Not up to the standards of the series as a whole

Way too much time was spent inside the main character's head. A huge portion of the book was spent listening to her confusion and depression, instead of things actually happening and getting clues and solving the crimes. It was very different from the earlier books and seemed quickly slapped together and her angst used as filler.

It's ok, but not continuing

I truly enjoyed the first few books in the series, but the main character has gotten more pitty me, extremely nosey, and hides a lot of information from the police when she is so called just there to help. I agree with other readers that there is no reason for all the political additives. I dont listen and read cozy mysteries to hear anyone's political views no matter which side they are on. This author is very one-sided and judgemental. I feel that if this author wants to share her political views then she needs to focus on left wing writing and advertise as that. I don't think I will be finishing this book and not listening anymore to the series.

GOOD READ BUT

I LOVE THIS SERIES, AND AS WITH A GOOD MANY I OVERLOOK POLITICAL AND PERSONAL VIEWS THAT DO NOT REFLECT MY OWN. FOR THE TIME BEING, IT IS STILL A FREE COUNTRY. HOWEVER, AS MUCH AS I LIKE THIS SERIES, I AM OFFENDED BY THE BLATANT INDICTMENT OF "CONSERVATIVES" AS "RIGHT WING THUGS." I HOLD CONSERVATIVE POLITICAL VIEWS, AND I AM A CHRISTIAN (THE KIND WHO KNIWS THE BIBLE US GOD'S WORD AND TRIES TO LIVE BY IT.) YET, NO ONE WHO KNOWS ME, WHETHER OR NOT WE AGREE POLITICALLY OR RELIGIOUSLY, WOULD CONSIDER ME UNKIND. MY FRIENDS RUN THE SPECTRUM. I READ COZIES BECAUSE I WANT TO RELAX AND ENJOY, NOT TO BE BOMBARDED BY HATEFUL NAME CALLING.

Too bad...

Didn't enjoy the political undertone. I do not see me finishing the series at this point.
