About this listen

Former model and current recluse Jules Lowe would prefer to spend the rest of her life locked inside her apartment doing nothing more than fixating on her empty fish tank and chatting away on a local aquarium forum.

But when her online crush sends her an inadvertently suspicious picture, Jules' curiosity gets the best of her. Who or what is Mack Vasser?

Even Jules' fear of the outside world can't stop her from exploring further. And while venturing out to track down Mack is scary enough, discovering he's part-fish, part-man is a shock of a lifetime. Even more shocking is Jules' confusing attraction to him which has her leaving her apartment again and again.

Unfortunately for Jules, she isn't the only person who's aware that creatures like Mack exist. And now that she's gotten herself involved, she's risking not only her feelings but both their safety, in a world where nobody seems to know who the real monsters are.

left me gasping for breath!!!

Obsessed does not even begin to describe the way I am with Breathless and with Cat herself! She made sure to really commit to the aquatic theme. And I, for one, am HERE FOR IT! AND MK!!! You absolutely left nothing behind. I adore you and there is a reason you are one of my favorite narrators!

Jules is agoraphobic and Mack is someone she met online in an aquarium group, who happens to be a fish/monster. Watching their relationship grow, SLOWLY, was truly beautiful.

This book is filled with plot twists, healing (at least for me), a great representation of what some mental health journeys can look like, and an angsty slow burn.

I was not expecting to be as incredibly invested in every detail, but here I am. I definitely feel like I could read this multiple times and pick up on more breadcrumbs and more puns.

A romance that will leave you Breathless!

This story was immersive right from the beginning! The heroine’s personality and struggles were well layered throughout the novel and played against the mysterious and pensive nature of our fish hero.

The two main characters meet on a fish enthusiast forum online and their spark soon turns into flames when they meet in person. The closer they grow the more Jules notices changes within herself, both positive and alarming.

The looming threat of Jules’s cop neighbor was a great way to ramp up the tension and an exciting way to thrust the reader into the climax! I also must say, I loved how this author wrapped up the coffeehouse owner (George’s) storyline, so precious!!

Without giving anything away, the ending felt earned, and was a well rounded HEA! Great job Cat Wynn <3

Moving, sweet, & strange in the best ways

This turned out to be a really moving book about identity and conformity, courage and fear, in addition to a touching romance with a surprisingly sexy fishman. One of my best reads of the year!
