Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry returns to the world of Rot & Ruin with this first novel in a brand new series that's more thrilling and filled with exceptionally terrifying adventures.

Ever since her mother's death, Gabriella "Gutsy" Gomez has spent her days flying under the radar. But when her mother's undead body is returned to her doorstep from the grave and Gutsy witnesses a pack of ravagers digging up Los Muertos - her mother's name for the undead - she realizes that life finds you no matter how hard you try to hide from it.

Meanwhile, Benny Imura and his gang set out on a journey to finish what Captain Joe Ledger started: They're going to find a cure. After what they went through in the Rot and Ruin, they think they've seen it all, but as they venture into new and unexplored territory, they soon learn that the zombies they fought before were nothing compared to what they'll face in the wild beyond the peace and safety of their fortified town.

Amazing!

This book is great at tying it all in. If you haven’t read the Joe Ledger series, the Dead of Night series or Benny Imura series, this book will make you want to grab those book or go back and reread some of them. What a fun way to put it all together.

The dastardly duo does it again

The pairing of Johnathan Mayberry’s innate abilities as a writer with Ray Porters God given talent for narrative is something to behold. Yet another book I was glad I spent the money on. Well done once again. I know you both get tired of hear that. Anything with Joe Ledger in it will always garner my attention. This like all his others does not disappoint.

A perfect beginning to an ending

This book brings many things into a full circle. Ray Porter is beyond words.... Ray is my favorite narrator. I have a hard time listening to other narrators.

Triggered.

I love how people whine about, "ThErEs ToO mUcH pOliTiCs" or "I've been a Joe Ledger fan since the beginning but...."

Guess what: Jonathan Mayberry hasn't changed- you have. If you can't take a different fictional viewpoint than your limited world view, then that says a lot about you, not the writer. Your reviews speak LOUDLY about your shallowness. Grow up.

There is some very good writing in this book, and the opening hook is incredibly compelling. This is a well thought out plot and I couldn't wait to listen to it unwind! The author sure knows how to write and the narrator is top notch!

On the other hand, I'm really getting tired of teens that think they know better than anyone else, ignore everyone's directions/decisions and run off to have adventures only to be welcomed back as heroes by the people they abandoned; it's a trope that's tired and worn out since Harry Potter.
