About this listen

Growing up in the modern world, our children have to cope with ever-increasing amounts of stress, which can hinder their development. The ancient wisdom of Buddhism, with its emphasis on peace, love and compassion, is the ideal basis for helping any child to face these challenges with inner confidence and calm.

Building on the age-old art of storytelling, this beautiful audiobook retells 20 ancient Buddhist tales in a way that is thoroughly fun and accessible to children. The stories will transport kids into an imaginary world of enlightenment and discovery where they will meet delightful characters and discover an easy-to-understand Buddhist message - one that will help them think about how they can apply values such as patience, perseverance, honesty and generosity to their own lives.

Very sweet and positive

Would you listen to Buddha at Bedtime again? Why?

My ten year old twins adore this book. We would regularly read one of the stories at bedtime. At the end of the story there is always a moral talking point. These would prompt very deep and meaningful discussions. So many other books are about overcoming obstacles with bravery, courage and perseverance. These stories are more about discovering the power of kindness, compassion, patience and tolerance. When I saw this on audible I bought it right away. One twin listens to this almost every night with a timer on her phone app. The stories give her good dreams. I think we are a better family for these books. Thanks Dharmachari!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Buddha at Bedtime?

The peacock story is funny. But my favorite is The Princess and the Kingshuck Tree.

Have you listened to any of Eloise Oxer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not yet.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. And you shouldn't. Best to listen to each story and take time to reflect.

Poorly read, but great book.

The voices are horrible, it should just be read in a normal voice even when the character’s dialogue is being read.
