About this listen

Bully boys.

Arrogant tyrants.

Blue-blood bastards.

Call them whatever you want.

Around here, we just call them Kings.

Fancy boats.

Lakeside mansions.

Luxe watches and bespoke suits.

The Kings of High Court College act like Gods.

And Cooper Valcourt is the worst of them.

He is the bully king.

His family owns everything.

And his mission is to put me in my place and send me packing.

But Cooper and I have a history filled with secrets.

And everyone knows that power doesn’t come from having money.

It comes from holding secrets.

And I’m holding one of his.

A very dark secret that can bring him to his knees.

Bully King is a new-adult, dark, bully romance from New York Times best-selling author JA Huss featuring boys with power and girls at their mercy. It’s a campus shrouded in lies and a summer rush into an elite society that can propel a poor girl straight into the ruling class.

If…she’s willing to pay the price.

Worth listening to

This one is a little hard to review. I am a huge fan of this author and her writing style but even I had a hard time following exactly what was going on throughout this book. There are layers upon layers of intrigue and backstabbing and it all finally comes together in the end. So if you’re on the fence or only a few chapters in don’t give up because all will be explained.

Bully king/Ruling class

This review is for both books and may contain spoilers. First I’d like to say I love JA Huss’ writing. The “world building” and layers to her stories are phenomenal. I was first introduced to her writing as KC Cross “Harem Station” series (highly recommend). So, reading this duet is a bit of a let down. I’ve read a good selection of reviews for both books, and I have to agree with both the good and bad reviews. The overall book, broken down in themes/sub-plots is quite good. There is a good foundation to the book, but executed rather poorly. The “society”/“cult” is piece-mealed throughout the two books, creating the intrigue of the plot. I don’t feel the explanation of that was done in a satisfactory way. The reader is left still wondering about it. How it was explained in less than 5 minutes is very anti-climatic. More information and possibly dialogue with the characters would have been more impactful. Since this explanation should have been a major part of the conclusion of the story, that makes disappointed. The relationship aspect for not only Cooper and Cadee, but also the rest of the characters being “summed up” between 1 and 5 sentences each leaves the reader feeling like the last 10-15% of the second book was rushed possibly because of the authors need to meet a deadline. For this reason the reader is let down. Personally, I’d like to see a spin off series; (but not dark),where some (if not all) the couples and singles are followed for several years.

Whaaaa!?!?

I have so many questions! 🤯 I need the next book 😖 and can we get a book detailing what went down 3 years ago? 😏 Please? 🙏
Huss created another twisty, schemey and secrets filled story that's intriguing and engaging. Mona is The BEST character and I want more of her ❤

Twisted!

This book was dark and twisted, and there were elements that made me uncomfortable, but overall the twists and turns and excellent narration kept me glued to my earbuds. The characters were interesting and complex, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens with them in the next book. Many secrets were revealed, but I have a feeling there will be so much more revealed in the second book. (Warning: Those with triggers should definitely proceed with caution before listening.)

The narration by Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder was wonderful! The two of them were perfect as Cooper and Cadee.

Love hate relationship with this book

I have a Love hate relationship with this book. I did really like it, but on min, I love it, and the next minute, I am internally yelling at Kate for WTF is she doing? I couldn't stop listening though (I listened to the audiobook, which the narrators did a great job on BTW!). I mean, one min Kate is being stubborn and standing up, the next min she is letting everyone walk all over her. I have to admit, while I seen the end coming, I didn't expect them to point the finger to the person they did!

Shall I go on to the next book??? Ok, I will...

This is a strange cult story... and of course JA Huss' books are wilder than wild. So, this one is out there too. There are things happening that don't make sense. Are they trapped?? Are they free to leave? Who knows?? I'm going to listen to the next book because I think JA Huss is an amazing author... so she must have something special stored in book 2.

The narration for Emma Wilder is a bit annoying as she fluctuates her voice in every sentence... just like Captain Kirk from Star Trek. Jacob Morgan is perfect!

I'm at a stage where I'm in two minds... shall I continue??? or not??? For my loyalty to JA Huss... I'm going to continue.

J.A.Huss makes you crave a story

she never disappoints... I ha e read a few reviews here and you folks should stick to your gentle girl comes home to fall back in love with the jock, cop, brothers best friend, guy with the kid who visits the senior citizen HEA books ... Huss ain't that kind of gal so move along and leave these twisted mind screws for us because we love them ... don't we ladies? Cooper, Axe and Lars are characters you want to touch ... Katie is us - you know you shouldn't stay ... but you do because you want to know the secrets ... there have to be more. And then you add Donte and Mona to the mix ... and holy hell we want to read the next one.

Bully King

Um... wow! These characters are so deep and yet confusing at the same time. I was hooked from the very beginning! Betrayal, love, hate, stubbornness, pride, greed and so much more. This is a must read for everyone!! The narration is absolutely phenomenal as well.

Cooper and Cadee

I had so many emotions with this book. There are bullies, there is darkness, there is abuse, there is love.

I trust JA Huss will always give us a payoff, and for awhile I couldn't quite see that it was coming, but she did pay off in the end.

As I listened through the day, these kids took me through soo much. At first I was angry with these characters for doing the things they were to each other. As it unfolded I saw the bigger picture and that the Bullys and Victims are so clear cut as you thought in the beginning. NOTHING is as it seems from the beginning. It was a wild ride.

Emma Wilder and Jacob Morgan's performances are excellent. They really pull you into this story and just take you way.
