About this listen

Evangeline's life is dark and lonely. She'll do anything to change that. Anything. Even play a game with a stranger she's never met. What starts out as "therapy" soon turns into a passionate anonymous love affair. Her blindfold is like a security blanket and his touch is what lights a fire inside her.

I have no idea who he is, what he looks like, or why he agreed to play this game with me. But I don't care. I don't even care that I have to wear a blindfold before he'll come into my room. I don't care that he watches me sleep, and dress, and wants to know all my deepest, darkest, saddest secrets.

She's lost. Sad and lost. And even though it's my job to watch her from the other side of the surveillance cameras, that's not why I enter her room at night. That's not why I touch her when she begs. That's not why I'm really here.

I want her, but does she really want me? Or does she just like the idea of loving a stranger?

Roller coaster ride of suspense

This book was incredible. I had no idea what to expect but became enamored with it. Evangeline and Ixion are an amazing pairing, like a fine wine and the perfect accompanying cheese. I couldn’t stop listening and ended up staying up til 4;30am because I couldn’t walk away.

The twists and turns kept me on my toes. At some point, I had to stop trying to think ahead and just be with the story where it was in any moment.

I would have liked a little more background on Jordan but I am hoping by story 4 we get more of his back story.

Can’t wait to listen to the next one!

Who's playing who?

My first exposure to Jordan was in the Turning Series and I was excited to see his character get his own series. Jordan is the puppet master, or so it would appear. This story, however, is not about Jordan but rather Evangeline, former child prodigy now recluse, and Ixion, Jordan’s former childhood friend who appears destructive and lost. There are so many twists and turns and I enjoyed trying to figure out who was really playing who in the game. I’m still in awe of how everything played out.

The narration was such a great fit for the characters. Elena Wolfe delivers a wonderful performance as Evangeline. I felt her character's insecurities and fear. Christian Fox as Ixion, WOW! He is amazing!! I have always loved his performances and he does not fail to deliver. The emotion he brings is unlike any other. Teddy Hamilton’s appearance is smaller than I would have liked but he’s a great fit for Jordan.

Original & erotic story - 4.5 stars

This story was such a wonderful surprise. It’s so well written and the audible performances were excellent (Elena Wolfe and Christian Fox are always so good and among my favorite narrators). I only docked it half a star because I didn’t find the overarching plot that ties together the books in the series particularly Interesting or necessary.

I read a lot of erotica and dark romance. Most are poor to mediocre, repetitive, juvenile, and unoriginal. On the other end of the spectrum are the slow burn stories with loftier literary aspirations but that fail on the erotic/sex components or turn out equally silly.
This book was the perfect balance. I was both moved by the characters and their personal pain and their connection. But I was also super turned on and excited throughout the book.

I love that the author took risks with this book. There was a device used where the MCs communicate to each other through a journal to reveal things about themselves to each other. The female character would write hers in poetry form. It sounds so cheesy but it was a beautifully executed little device. The poems were gorgeous and I was so pleasantly surprised at the extra care and thought the author took in creating them for the story.

If you’re looking for a bit of a slow build, a hot, erotically charged, and ultimately beautiful love story, you should give this a listen.

Didn’t expect to enjoy this book!

Wow, so many twists, kept me interested throughout. I don’t care for sex scenes in any books but I totally understand why they were necessary in this book. It interestingly brought the whole story together.

Bravo

This book is exceptional. 10 stars 10 stars and 10 stars. Ms Huss out did herself writing the story. The narrators performed flawlessly. Especially icksien with the slow expressive voice.
Worth any price!

Interesting

Evangeline was a child prodigy who after emancipation from her parent's became a total recluse. Her thetapist and Jordan decided that she needed to go through a total exposure experience to get out of her comfort zone.
Jordan hired his buddy X to watch over her and he was not to make any contact with her during the two weeks.
That became impossible.
I enjoyed the games he played with her and the fact that he and she fell for each other. Even though she never saw his face or though she thought.
JA Huss did a good job of setting the scene and making everything turn out just right.

BOLD, Ingenious writing, Thoughtful.

These are great characters. Super down to earth, with very common issues. Let's face it, who doesn't go that extra mile to make amends when saying sorry is just not enough. Page after page of struggles. Plus, when you need to have a tantrum, just make sure the crap you break is your own! Read on!
